Unless you have been living under a boulder for the last decade or so, you’ve probably heard of the YouTuber PewDiePie (otherwise known as Felix Arvid Ulf Kjellberg). At times controversial, the video game streamer turned all-around vlogger has amassed an unbelievable 110,492,584 YouTube subscribers in the space of 10 years.
On August 15, 2013, he was officially recognized as the Youtuber with the highest subscriber count, and although he has now slipped to number 3, he is still wildly popular, especially with the under 25-year-old crowd and gamers of all ages.
One of his most important pieces of vlogging equipment is the headphones he uses while recording.
What Headphones Does PewDiePie Use?
Audio behemoth Razer teamed up with the YouTuber, and together they released a personalized PewDiePie version of the fantastic Razer Kraken Pro V2 (renamed the “Kraken Bro V2”). This is the latest in a long line of personalized Razer headsets that PewDiePie uses.
And in my opinion, it’s probably the best of the bunch. So let’s dive in and check out why the Bro V2 is such a great set of headphones.
Build and Design
Although this set is essentially the same as a regular Kraken Pro V2, the outward design is where most of the differences lie (along with the drivers, but more on this later). The color scheme is a bold combination of striking red with PewDiePie style black patterns running the length of the headband.
The earcups feature PewDiePie’s logo. Replacing the regular Razer logo, although this can be found on the headband. The design pops and is super catching to the eye. It’s one of the main reasons, so many consumers are searching desperately for deals on this headset.
The build quality is top-notch…
Combining hard plastics for the outer shell with high-grade aluminum for the internal skeleton. Razer has done an awesome job of keeping this headset lightweight and comfortable without jeopardizing the strength of the headset. The wiring plays its part here also, with all of the wires being made from the near-indestructible Kevlar.
The earcups and headband have been padded with what feels like super soft memory foam and wrapped with faux leather. This combination offers long-lasting comfort without the worry of ear overheating issues, even during the longest gaming sessions.
There is a control panel located on the headset wire that gives full control over volume and playback, a feature we see missing all too often with gaming headsets. Overall, the Kraken Bro V2 is rugged and sturdy, looks great, and provides long-lasting comfort, with every box being firmly ticked.
Sound Quality
Razer has decided to boost the sound quality for the Kraken Bro V2 by changing out the original drivers for a set that packs a punch. The whole soundstage has been boosted here, which is not only great for music but also gaming.
In general, the soundstage is just much wider. This allows for more room for each frequency to shine through, resulting in a much less “muddy” overall sound. Unlike the original Kraken Pro V2’s (which has a very crowded sound), the Kraken Bro V2’s make it super easy to differentiate between all the sounds a game will throw your way.
While playing Battlefield, enemy footsteps were much easier to hear while they were sneaking around behind me, and the guns have never sounded so great. The 7.1 virtual surround sound won’t necessarily make you a better gamer, but it will add to your gaming experience.
Microphone
This is where a little bit of disappointment creeps in. I was fully expecting to find an absolute top-shelf mic assembly with the Kraken Bro V2. Unfortunately, that is not exactly what I found. That’s not to say this isn’t a good mic. It is just that it’s not up to the standard that I was expecting from a signature PewDiePie Gaming Headset.
The fully retractable mini boom mic picks up a fair bit of the background noise that is around you. I quite often found my teammates struggling to clearly hear my instructions and responses. It did perform pretty well for video recording, though, just not as well as I had expected.

What Headphones Does PewDiePie Use? – Bottom Line
So if you are looking to use the same headset as PewDiePie, then you certainly can. As with every product, it comes with its own list of pros and cons. But overall, the PewDiePie Razer Kraken Pro V2 Gaming Headset does a great job in most areas and has been built to last a very long time indeed.
Sure, other headsets on the market may have a better microphone. But this slight con is balanced out by the truly top-quality design and the beautiful soundstage. Overall I would give this headset an 8.5/10.
Until next time, happy listening.
