Who is Prodigy?

Prodigy (born Albert Johnson) was an American rapper, songwriter, author, and actor, mostly known for being half of the hip-hop duo Mobb Deep alongside Havoc. He was born on November 2, 1974, in Hempstead, New York, and grew up in Queensbridge Houses, a public housing project in Queens.

Early Life

Prodigy’s parents divorced when he was young, so he was mostly raised by his mother. His love for music started at an early age when he listened to his father play the guitar. He began writing his own raps when he was around nine years old.


Prodigy formed Mobb Deep with Havoc in the early 1990s. They released their debut album, Juvenile Hell, in 1993, but it didn’t generate much attention. Their breakthrough album, The Infamous, was released in 1995 and is considered one of the greatest hip-hop albums of all time.

Prodigy released several solo albums throughout his career, including H.N.I.C., which stands for Head N**** In Charge, and was released in 2000. He also worked with other artists, such as LL Cool J, Nas, and Raekwon.

Aside from his music career, Prodigy was also an author. He wrote a memoir titled My Infamous Life: The Autobiography of Mobb Deep’s Prodigy, which was published in 2011.


Some of Prodigy’s most popular songs include “Shook Ones Pt. II,” “Survival of the Fittest,” “Quiet Storm,” and “Keep It Thoro.”

Prodigy had a daughter named T’Ziah with his ex-girlfriend Kiki. He later married Ikesha Dudley, and they had two children together, a son named Albert III and a daughter named Fahtasia.

Prodigy was diagnosed with sickle cell anemia, a genetic blood disorder, at an early age. He dealt with health complications throughout his life, including frequent hospitalizations.
