Where is the Serial Number Located?
After purchasing your Bose QuietComfort QC35 II headphones, it is best to register them with Bose. Hopefully, you won’t have to make any warranty claims, but it is best practice to keep a record just in case.
Registering your products will also keep you up to date with any firmware, software, or product updates. Companies like Bose also offer special deals and exclusive promotions to customers with registered products.
So, where is it on the QC35 II?
You can locate the 17-digit serial number on the inside of the right earcup. You will need to gently peel back the inner fabric known as the scrim to read it. Be sure to replace the scrim carefully and correctly, as it protects the important components inside.
The best thing to do is take a picture with your smartphone, as it might be too small and awkward to read. Once you have taken the picture and carefully replaced the scrim, you can increase the size of the picture and see the number.
If you want to know how to fix problems with Bose QuietComfort 35 II, getting advice from Bose isn’t always the quickest method. That said, for serious issues, they will be your best bet.
How to Pair the Bose QC35 II Headphones with Your Devices
Although it isn’t a necessity, I would recommend that you download the Bose Connect+ App. It is free on both iOS App Store and the Google Play Store and offers the easiest way to pair Bose QuietComfort 35 II headphones.
All you need to do is switch on your headphones, then launch the app on your device. The App will then complete the pairing process automatically by recognizing your headphones and prompting you to connect them.
Pairing without the Bose Connect+ App
If you prefer to not use the App, or it isn’t working for some reason, you can still follow the manual pairing method. This is a general Bose Connect+ app guide, and depending on your exact device, accessing the pairing menu will differ slightly.
- Slide the power switch, and hold it in the position closest to the Bluetooth symbol until you hear the voice prompt say “ready to pair.”
- The LED Bluetooth indicator will flash in blue color.
- On your device, open the Bluetooth menu and ensure it is set to “discoverable.”
- Select from the list “Bose QuietComfort 35 II”.
- While the connection process is taking place, the LED indicator light will blink white. Once the connection is successful, the light will turn solid white and then off.
Bose QuietComfort 35 II headphones support Bluetooth multipoint, which allows them to connect with two devices simultaneously. If you wish to use this feature, simply follow the same steps on the second device for increased multitasking.
Dealing with Bluetooth Connection Issues
No matter how premium your wireless headphones are, they all rely on using Bluetooth to make their connection. As convenient and awesome as Bluetooth is, it will never be able to provide the reliability offered by a wired connection. Here is how to resolve some common issues with Bluetooth connections.
Your device suddenly won’t pair again with your headphones…
The first thing to try is to make sure that all cables are disconnected from both your device and headphones. This includes both 3.5 mm audio cables and any USB charging cables. The next step is switching the Bluetooth off and back on again on your device.
If that doesn’t work, try deleting the Bose QuietComfort 35 II from the list of recognized devices and then completing the pairing process again. It is also worth removing any unused devices from the list while you’re there to avoid any unnecessary conflicts.
Your headphones keep dropping out, then reconnecting…
What can be even more frustrating than your headphones not connecting at all is them dropping out all the time. The audio quality can sometimes fluctuate randomly too, which becomes incredibly irritating very quickly.
One of the most common reasons why headphones keep dropping out is a conflict with the codec. The Bose QuietComfort 35 II headphones only use the AAC codec. This often causes problems with Android devices, as it has trouble encoding this particular codec.
A solution for Android…
If you are experiencing regular dropouts or inconsistent audio quality on your Android device, there is a way around this. Open the settings on your device, and look for the option “Developer options” within the menu.
Within here, you can change the codec from AAC to SBC. While the audio quality isn’t as high as AAC provides, it is, in fact, barely noticeable in most circumstances. And it certainly will be much better than continued dropouts and unreliable quality.
Check with other devices…
If it is not the codec causing these issues, then it might be a problem with the Bluetooth chip or the device itself. The first thing to do is try connecting your headphones with a different device and see if the issue persists.
If the issue is only with one device, you can try removing every item from the list of Bluetooth devices. Once the list is cleared, try pairing only your headphones. If the issue is still present, or it happens across various devices, you might need to update the firmware.
How to Update the Firmware
Updating the firmware on your Bose QuietComfort 35 II headphones will require the Bose Connect+ App. Once your headphones are detected by the App, if there is a new firmware version available, it will automatically download. Often enough, this app will help you figure out how to fix problems with Bose QuietComfort 35 II.
It can take around 45 minutes, and will first download directly to your device so you can continue using your headphones. Once the download is complete, you will receive a notification on your device reading “Update.”
Make sure your headphones are charged…
By pressing the “Update” button on your device, the freshly downloaded firmware file will transfer to your headphones. Before doing this, make sure there is plenty of battery life because losing power during the transfer can cause issues.
You can check your current firmware version in the settings tab of the Bose Connect+ App. If you prefer using a computer, you can complete it using the USB cable and by visiting the Bose website on either Windows or Mac.
ANC Not Operating Correctly
One of the most impressive features of the Bose QuietComfort 35 II headphones is their ANC (Active Noise Cancellation) technology. If it isn’t working correctly, you are going to be very disappointed.
A very important aspect of getting the most out of ANC technology is a correct fit and tight seal around the ear cushions. If you are wearing glasses or possibly even earrings, then this could be affecting the seal around your ears.
Change the self-voice setting…
A feature with these headphones is known as the self-voice setting and is used to monitor your voice levels during a call. While this is a great feature for during calls, it can cause issues during any other applications.
This is an automated feature that activates during calls and can sometimes fail to deactivate. To solve this problem, the best thing to do is disconnect your headphones from your device and then reconnect them again.

Activating Music Share…
To use this feature, you will need the Bose Connect+ App installed on your device. Launch the App, and then tap the Music Share icon in the bottom left corner, followed by the “Find a Headphone” button.
A list of compatible devices will appear on the screen. Swipe left or right to find the one you wish to pair with. Swipe down to select the device, and it might ask you to put that device into pairing mode by following the instructions on the screen. Once completed, all three devices will be linked, and you can share the audio.
Customize the Action Button
There are three different options you can set for the action button located on the back of the left earcup. The three options include; accessing Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, or adjusting the ANC levels.
Google Assistant features…
Pressing and holding the action button will activate Google Assistant. To hear notifications, tap the button once. To stop the assistant, tap the button twice. And, to reply to a message, press and hold the button, releasing it once you’re done speaking.
Using Amazon Alexa…
If you set the action button to Amazon Alexa, you will need to download the Alexa App. Once the App is installed, it will take you through a setup process with your headphones. Once the initial setup is complete, pressing and holding the action button for a second will activate Amazon Alexa.
Adjusting ANC levels…
Many people don’t feel comfortable using voice assistants and will choose the ANC setting for the action button. Each time you push the button, a voice will tell you which level is selected. Options include High, Low, and Off.
Issues with the Ear Pads
Because these headphones will last you a long time into the future, the ear pads may deteriorate before anything else. If the ear pads are excessively worn or damaged, it can affect the audio quality and ANC performance.

Keep your earpads clean…
It is best practice to keep the earpads clean on your Bose QuietComfort 35 II headphones, especially if exposed to sweat. The best method for cleaning your ear pads is to use a disinfectant wipe or a slightly damp cloth. Make sure they are completely dry before storage.
Understanding the Battery Indicator
Located on the right ear cup is an LED used as a battery indicator. It can flash different colors, letting you know the status of your battery. Most of the time, it will be solid green, which means there is a high level of battery charge.
What do the colors mean…
While charging, the indicator will flash an amber color. If the charging cable is disconnected and it flashes amber, the battery is low. A flashing red light indicates a charge is needed, and solid red means there’s an issue with the battery.
