Easy KZ ZST Review

If you’re shopping for an In-Ear Monitor, there are plenty of choices to be made. There are a bunch of IEMS out there costing just a few dollars. There are also a few that would cost enough to make your eyes water.

However, if you’re in the market for an affordable and quality pair of In-Ear Monitors, you should certainly check out the Easy KZ ZST Colorful Hybrid In-Ear Earphones. They are honestly pretty hard to beat in this segment of the market.

The KZ ZST In-Ear Monitors are the latest, and we believe the best offering from Knowledge Zenith.

So let’s find out how good is this addition to their line is, as we take an in-depth look in this Easy KZ ZST Review…

Our rating:4.2 out of 5 stars (4.2 / 5)

Sound Quality

Though obviously not the only consideration when buying In-Ear Monitors, sound quality is by far the most important. The question is, for a relatively inexpensive pair of In-Ear Monitors, how do the Easy KZ ZST Colorful Hybrids perform?

Let’s examine some of the features and specifications and find out.

These are dual-driver IEMs featuring dynamic and balanced armatures. This separation of drivers allows for a better mix and quality of high and low frequencies. The easy KZ ZST Colorful Hybrids IEMs execute this technology effectively to give a nicely detailed sound.

Their use of sound separation works really well and provides for an overall balanced listening experience. The bass is tight, mids are smooth, and the highs are bright.

A nice balance across the frequency range…

The bass is tight and punchy, but not overly-heavy, so as to dominate the overall sound. Despite their balanced nature, these still have a bass orientated sound. A sound that will satisfy all but the most heavily bass orientated listener. Certainly, for most genres of music, the KZ ZSTs offer an excellent bass balance and response. A response achieved without the need for an artificial bass boost.

The mids are smooth and generally warm. There is an emphasis here on the middle mids and higher mids. The lower mids have less emphasis. As a result, though well centered, a degree of warmth may be lost on male vocals which is not the case with female vocals.

The highs are clear and detailed but may at times sound slightly bright. However, this is not to the extent that it significantly detracts from an otherwise balanced sound. Further, the high frequencies are neither overly intrusive or tiring, to listen to over extended listening periods.

But, check this out…

For the technically driven listeners out there, the Easy Colorful Hybrids have an impedance of 18 ohms, a sensitivity of 106dB/mw and a frequency response of between 20Hz-20000Hz. The latter being very handy for any of you who fancy popping a pair into your pet bats ears. That should give them a memorable listening experience.

Overall, for a relatively inexpensive pair of IEMs, the KZ ZSTs offer amazing sound quality.

Design and Features

The KZ ZST Colorful Hybrids certainly stand out from the crowd. Colorful, they certainly are. Looking somewhat futuristic, people will be expecting you to be beamed up to the SS Enterprise at any second. But, it’s not only the color that will get you noticed, as these do have a fairly large profile. We can’t help thinking they look a bit like a hearing-aids. All be it funky and futuristic ones.

They are suitable for use with all the latest electronic devices which come fitted with a 3.5mm jack. Further, they are also suitable for musicians performing live on stage. They come with a two-pin 120cm detachable cable. The cable is a memory wire design. This is perfect for behind the ear wearing and comfort.

Detachable cable…

One advantage of a detachable cable is the ability to change it in the event of damage and wear. Another advantage is that a detachable cable also gives the user an opportunity to upgrade the cable, for one of better sound quality. Knowledge Zenith, the KZ ZST Colorful Hybrids manufacturer, offer an outsourced approved upgraded cable for separate purchase.

Alternative upgraded cables are also readily available from all the usual retail outlets.

Bluetooth…

If you want to upgrade your IEMs to Bluetooth, the good news is that you can do that too.

This model’s cable comes with a built-in microphone. It can be used to answer and end calls for phone use. Another nice phone feature, we’re sure you’ll agree, is that if you keep the button on hold, you’re able to bring up Google Assistant. It can also be used to play, pause, and skip tracks when listening to music.

You get a selection of three silicone tips included. In most circumstances, these should provide enough options to give a high degree of comfort and noise isolation. If not, it’s easy enough to change them for the foam alternatives. For some people, this might help to secure a better sound seal.

Comfort and Build Quality

To this point, it all looks pretty impressive. Solid sound quality and a reasonable level of features and design quality. But what about the comfort and build quality? Is that every bit as good?

Let’s take a closer look and find out…

Firstly, let’s check out the use of materials.

The actual hard shells are made out of what appears to be a fairly cheap plastic. On the plus side though, they look reasonably durable. However, it’s questionable how long the colorful paint job will actually remain in-tact.

The cable is made from the memory wire variety. It’s made of an outer rubber covering. Reasonable enough, though it that can at times feel a little sticky to the touch. It’s also not the most hard-wearing of materials and may need to be replaced sometime down the line.

The cable is connected to the earbuds by a two-pin system. It’s not the easiest to connect and disconnect. This could possibly cause wear issues to the connection point of the cable at some point.

The ear tips are made of silicone and are very standard.

Nice and comfy…

The earbuds are well designed, lightweight, and fit comfortably in the ear. As previously mentioned, they are a little bulky. But despite this, it doesn’t make them uncomfortable for prolonged use. The silicone tips should be suitable to provide a good fit for most people. However, if a better fit is required, it’s easy to replace them with foam alternatives. Foam ear tips do tend to offer a better seal.

Finally, the no-tangle memory wire. This is a classic design and offers excellent comfort for wearing of the Easy KZ ZST Colorful Hybrid In-ear Earphones behind the ear. The rubber-coated no-tangle cable does offer some water resistance. Useful, we’re sure you’ll agree.

In summary, it’s apparent that there may have been some compromises on the materials used. It’s to be expected given the price point they are working within. However, this appears to have only slightly affected the durability of the product, whilst not significantly impacting on the listeners’ comfort.
