Can you Connect to Two Bluetooth Speakers at Once?

I am often asked, “Can you connect to two Bluetooth speakers at once?” Conventional wisdom would tell you no. But it wouldn’t be the first time that wisdom was way off. In fact, you can connect multiple Bluetooth speakers at once if you know what you’re doing.

But don’t fret too much. You don’t have to be a technical genius to get the job done. You just have to be good at following instructions. There are numerous ways to connect several Bluetooth devices at once, but I’ll show you the easiest and quickest ways…

Understanding Bluetooth 5 and Previous Limitations

Until Bluetooth 5.0 was launched back in 2016, its functionality had lots of limitations. This is why Bluetooth compatibility has risen so much over the past few years.

Bluetooth 4.2 was the previous version. It only worked by connecting one device to another at a range of 10 to 30 feet. And that wasn’t a problem if you were connecting a speaker to a media player in the same room. But you would experience connectivity issues even by taking your speaker into the next room.

Many ideas arose to circumnavigate those limited connection issues with Bluetooth 4.2. However, the latest and more modern devices support Bluetooth 5.0, so you shouldn’t have too many problems connecting two or more speakers. So let’s find out…

How to Connect Two Bluetooth Speakers at Once

Connecting two or more Bluetooth speakers at once should be simple enough as long as you have a modern device with Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity. If you have older devices, you might find it more difficult. However, even with older devices, there are some ways in which it can be done.

Bluetooth 5.0 Devices

Bluetooth 5.0 Devices

If your device and speakers support Bluetooth 5.0, you should have no problems whatsoever connecting two or more speakers. This version has extended the connection signal up to 120 feet. That is a massive difference from the original range. Furthermore, it allows you to connect two or more speakers at once.

As of this moment, not many products support Bluetooth 5.0. Although it will become standard on new devices. Each device has different connectivity settings, so it could be as simple as pressing a button. So, let’s run through some devices and options by checking out these highly recommended Bluetooth 5.0 speakers.

Bose Connect App

Using the Bose Connect app is a great way to connect two Bluetooth speakers at once if you don’t have Bluetooth 5.0. The app makes it simple to connect two Bose speakers, such as a Bose Soundlink Speaker. Obviously, you would need two of them.

You can download the app to your phone and use it to connect the speakers. Then you can connect them in party mode, so they play the same sound in mono, or configure them to play in stereo. All you need to do is connect one speaker to the Bluetooth, and connect to the app with the second speaker and turn on Party Mode.

You can also change them to stereo in the app settings. It’s also important to mention that you can even connect two Bluetooth speakers to your phone without the app. Just hold down the Bluetooth and volume buttons at the same time and follow the instructions.

However, you can also connect these Ultimate Ears speakers without the app, very similar to the Bose speakers. First, you need to connect one of your speakers to your phone or device with Bluetooth. You can then press and hold the Bluetooth and volume-up buttons simultaneously until you hear confirmation.

Well, the answer to the question is, yes, you can. And in some cases, you can connect multiple speakers at once. Any device that supports Bluetooth 5.0 can connect two or more speakers at one time. But some brands such as Bose and JBL will only let you connect two speakers using their own apps.

Connecting two or more Bluetooth speakers at once is much easier than it used to be. Pre-2016, you would struggle to make it happen. Thank god for technological evolution that continually strives to simplify and improve our lives.

Until next time, happy listening.
