Top 10 Best Waterproof Bluetooth Headphones in 2023

1 Jabra Elite Active 65t Earbuds

Some people lead an active life, and if you are one of them, the Jabra Active earbuds will keep you in touch with what’s going on, which includes taking your calls and playing your music.

These are well made and robust earbuds that fit securely in your ear and stay there, so whatever exercise your enjoying, they are not going to let you down. They have an IP56 rating, which is a measure of their resistance against sweat and dust, and where you go, they can safely go with you.

Goes a lot further than Bluetooth…

The standard built-in connection features are impressive. It operates with Bluetooth 5.0, so there are good connections to your smartphone, but it goes a lot further than just a Bluetooth connection.

The Active 65t will connect you to Google Assistant, Alexa, or Siri, giving you easy access to any information you are likely to need. You can even have messages left for you read out.

Being able to take them with you all day means you will require a lot of power from somewhere. You can rely on average on about five hours from one charge, which does not seem particularly helpful if you are going to carry them with you all day. Day half gone, the battery is all gone. They do however include, what they call a ‘pocket-friendly’ charger, that will give you an extra fifteen hours.

No connection issues…

The Jabra enjoys 3rd Gen stability in its wireless contact so you can take your calls without having to put up with dropouts and other connection issues and of course, no cables are dangling around.

Getting a good fit is important, and some extra size tips are included to make sure you get a good seal.

Made of plastic, of course, but they are quite well built and are going to last a while. The case is also plastic and possibly a little bit flimsy so care will be needed when using that.

Sound-wise they are ok. They are earbuds, so the sound is never going to be that good, but there is a downloadable app that allows you to adjust the sound to suit your taste.

Jabra Elite Active 65t Earbuds
Our rating:3.6 out of 5 stars (3.6 / 5)

Pros
  • Quite well made and robust.
  • Have a lot of connection options.
Cons
  • Quite expensive.

2 Sony WI-SP600N

What Sony have tried to do here is pack just about everything they can think of into a small set of wireless headphones. They are Sony of course, so there is going to be some quality about them but how do they sit as the best waterproof Bluetooth headphones?

They are well-built and durable and have an IPX4 rating which means they can handle a bit of sweat, though a good clean at the end won’t harm. But are though quite bulky, and some might say heavy. This, of course, in there attempt to be strong and long-lasting.

Get the right fit…

The ear tips are comfortable. But they have a heavy reliance on the wingtips if they are to stay in your ear. Included are an extra four sizes of ear tips and two sizes of wings, so you get the fit right and a decent seal which will be important.

The sound is good, which is what you would expect from a Sony product. They have a closed dynamic design with 6mm drivers, so it is quite punchy. They also offer noise cancellation and have a battery life of five hours.

An app is downloadable to give you further sound options and offers a basic EQ setup. There are some basic presets, or you can customize the sound to suit yourself.

Bit on the heavy side…

The inline controller is bigger than on most other models, probably because of the amount of tech these earbuds are carrying. The noise cancellation and sound modes are all included so maybe it’s an unfair criticism, but it is noticeably heavier than on other brands.

What Sony has tried to create with the SP600N are the best waterproof Bluetooth headphones. They have included a lot of tech, but maybe overlooked the comfort and fit which are basic but fundamentally important.

Sony WI-SP600N
Our rating:3.7 out of 5 stars (3.7 / 5)

Pros
  • Lots of tech onboard.
  • Quite a good price point.
Cons
  • Comfort and build not so good.
  • Heavy.

3 Plantronics Backbeat Fit Bluetooth Headphones

Plantronics have manufactured a set of Bluetooth headphones that allow you to swim while using them. They have a variety of potential uses, but swimming in the pool is just one. And will work in the pool up to a depth of approximately one meter for about thirty minutes. They have been given an IP57 rating.

We would like to make the point that these headphones are for pool use only and not for swimming in the sea. If you like to swim in the sea and want Bluetooth enabled headphones, then these are not the ones. However, they feature a protective nano-coating that protects against water and sweat so in the pool and in the gym they are fine.

Listen to the music…

They have on-ear controls for listening to music and Bluetooth connections to your phone. The sound is quite good, the bass and highs quite prominent. You will get about eight hours of usage from the battery.

A good feature with these phones is that they have built-in safety features that allow you to hear your music, but also hear what is going on around you. How often have you seen someone running with phones and you can tell they cannot hear anything but the music.

If you are looking for some phones that work well in a variety of situations, some of which involving water or sweat, then these are worth considering as the best Waterproof Bluetooth headphones. Set in the mid-price range.

Plantronics Backbeat Fit Bluetooth Headphones

4 Plantronics Backbeat FIT 500 On-Ear Sport Headphones

When companies realized that if they designed and constructed headphones in certain ways, that they could be taken and used just about anywhere. Then we began to see the rise of Waterproof Bluetooth headphone technology. It is a far cry from the days when headphones were just for people working in TV or in recording studios.

Now we have athletes training with them and even people using them in the gym and jogging. Some even use them just to relieve the drudgery of the morning commute to work on the bus or train.

The Backbeat Fit 500 is a very good example of headphones designed for a specific purpose and given certain design technologies that ordinary headphones do not have.

Come rain, come shine…

One of these special treatments is a P2i nano-coating. This is a water-resistant treatment that will resist sweat and even some heavy rain. Suitable then for running or jogging in all weathers. They have ear cups that are rubberized to keep water out of your ears and hold them firmly in place.

Plantronics are a company that is heavily involved with communications, and so they understand wireless comms and the connections are excellent. You will need to stay within about ten meters of your device to avoid problems, though.

Excellent battery life…

Battery life is good, about eighteen generous hours and while the sound is not studio quality, or anything close, it is adequate for its purpose. If you’re looking for that the best studio headphones for home recording would be more suitable.

When you first pick them up, they do not feel very well made and robust, but that is a bit of an illusion. They are tough enough to stand some road running. The fit on the head is somewhat different, as well. The ear cups don’t cover your ears fully, and the headband is a close fit.

For the price a very good buy.

Plantronics Backbeat FIT 500 On-Ear Sport Headphones
Our rating:3.8 out of 5 stars (3.8 / 5)

Pros
  • Long battery life.
  • Sweat and water-resistant.
Cons
  • Feel a bit weak in your hand at first.

5 Bluetooth Headphones, Vava Moov 28 Wireless Headphones

If you are in the market for some flashy, good looking headphones to go with your sporting activity, then these are probably not for you. Very plain in design and black everywhere they aren’t designed to say ‘look at me.’

They are just well-made, budget headphones that quietly go about the business of providing you with a decent sound and a few extras while you use them. They have an IPX6 rating which makes them resistant to water through their nano-coating, so sweat and the odd splash of rain are fine.

Get in control…

The user controls are well located and simple to use and place below the right earbud. It also houses the battery. Three buttons operate play, pause, next and back options. One of the buttons also acts as an on/off,

Battery life is about nine hours, and it takes just two hours to fully charge them, so that is a better than average performance for this sort of equipment. A micro USB port is used for charging.

On the reverse of the earbuds, they have attached a magnet which will connect both earbuds together and hold the unit in place around your neck while not in use. Very useful rather than having two wires just dangling about.

Fits like a glove…

The ear tips are silicone, within an aluminum housing, with an angled design that fits quite deep into your ear. Included are extra silicone tips of assorted sizes along with some extra wings to ensure you get a nice seal and fit your ear and a clip for your shirt.

Sound-wise they are ok. Not brilliant of course, but for the money a very good sound. Bluetooth is easily paired with your device and is stable.

They are a good set of phones at a very attractive price.

Bluetooth Headphones, Vava Moov 28 Wireless Headphones
Our rating:3.9 out of 5 stars (3.9 / 5)

Pros
  • Simple, basic, but functional design.
  • Easy controls and Bluetooth use.
Cons
  • Very plain design.

6 Soundcore Wireless Headphones Anker Spirit Pro

Sometimes when you see a product like headphones, you can easily see them being used in a variety of applications. These wireless headphones by Soundcore are no different, except that the Spirit Pro has been made to wear in the gym and looks like it.

These are made for those people who need robust headphones for their fitness workout. They are protected by technology that guards against the corrosive elements of sweat and allows you to work out for longer. The battery will give you up to ten hours from a single charge, so probably almost a whole week of gym sessions before you have to charge up again.

The construction is good like most Anker products but basic, and the design of the earbuds hold them in place with the aid of the earwings. Supplied are small, medium, large and extra-large ear tips and also three sizes of earwings to enable you to find the perfect fit.

What’s in the box…

Included in the package is also a shirt clip, micro USB cable, and a cable clip. There are magnets applied to the earpieces, so they will join together when not in use instead of having cables getting in the way.

The sound is quite acceptable. Unless you pay a lot of money, the sound of Headphones like these is not going to be exceptional, but it is quite decent. 6mm drivers push out the sound, and it must it certainly has clarity. The bass is quite prominent, but the highs are still powerful in the mix. As usual with these kinds of products, the mids do suffer a bit, but that is normal.

More than adequate…

Nevertheless, the sound is good and more than adequate for what is needed and the Bluetooth connection quite stable providing you are in the vicinity of your device.

At the price point a very good buy if you want a pair of phones for the gym or other athletic activity.

Soundcore Wireless Headphones Anker Spirit Pro
Our rating:3.8 out of 5 stars (3.8 / 5)

Pros
  • Well made and rugged for activity.
  • Protected against moisture.
  • Good price.
Cons
  • The in-line controller is quite large.

7 Bose Soundsport Pulse Wireless Headphones

Bose needs little introduction to most people regarding the quality of the sound their equipment produces. They are certainly going to be on the list for the best waterproof Bluetooth headphones.

Comfort and build quality seem to be high on the list of priorities when these were designed. It has to be said though that in first sight we were a little taken aback by the size of the earpieces which looked like they were enormous. They might be a little larger than the average, but they are still comfortable and are much lighter than they look. Though probably not the most comfortable headphones you will ever wear.

Built for comfort…

They have soft ear hooks made from silicone that fit neatly into your ear, and these are the only part of the phones that make contact — definitely built for comfort, but for style and good looks – probably not. Even though they are a nice fit, they are bulky and are visually quite prominent.

They do have one interesting feature, though, an in-built heart rate monitor for your work out sessions. There is a sensor located on the left earbud. This needs to be in contact with the skin to get a reading. The instructions are quite clear if the monitor stops giving you a reading wipe with a damp cloth. Either that or get to the hospital quick. It is a feature that some will appreciate, while others will not.

Good performance…

Bluetooth performance is good as long as you stay within the recommended proximity of your device, but battery length certainly is disappointing. Five hours is a short time and enforces the belief these were designed for the gym, not all-day use, and They are recharged using a micro USB.

Sound, of course, is good and better than the average as you might expect but they do come at a price

Bose Soundsport Pulse Wireless Headphones
Our rating:3.7 out of 5 stars (3.7 / 5)

Pros
  • Sturdy build.
  • Good quality, sound, and wireless connections.
Cons
  • Battery life is short.

8 V-MODA Bassfit In-Ear Wireless Sport Headphones

These are definitely built to last the pace. They certainly look at first sight to be tough, and that when you put them in your ears, they are going to stay there, despite the level of your activity.

Built for the gym and athletic pursuits, they have received a double layer of nanocoating. Most of course only have a single layer, but layering it twice is going to provide that extra bit of protection against sweat, and give them an extra level of water-resistance.

Well connected…

Magnets are built-in to the earpieces allowing them to connect to each other when not in use to avoid messy cables. They have an interesting earpiece design feature that prevents the earbud shell pressing into your ear too much.

There is a controller on the cable from the right ear which is quite stable and contains the controls for playback, volume and call assistance, and the cables are designed with a little extra of an elastic feel to them.

A big sound…

The sound is powerful with 10mm drivers designed to give you extra bass at the expense of the mids, but the highs are still audible. The battery life is a very good eleven hours with a quick charge facility available.

Extra fittings are supplied to try to give you the best fit. These include a set of ear hooks, three sets of ear fins and eight pairs of silicone ear tips. It has to be said though that they are not the most comfortable fit. A micro USB cable is also included along with a case for traveling.

If you are looking for a heavy work-out set of earbuds, these might be suitable. The Bluetooth is reliable, and connections are good, and they are certainly robust enough.

V-MODA Bassfit In-Ear Wireless Sport Headphones
Our rating:3.3 out of 5 stars (3.3 / 5)

Pros
  • Tough build with very good battery life.
  • Good controls and connections.
Cons
  • Heavier than most similar products.
  • Not the most comfortable fit.

9 Soundwhiz Turbo Pink Earbuds

It is not an easy thing to design a product that sits in your ear and can really be called comfortable, but Soundwhiz has achieved it.

Constructed from a silicon material that is pliable and soft, the ear hooks are still quite sturdy. The design gives them two wearing positions casual and locked. During casual wear, they do not fit so tightly, but for use during activity the locked-in options, they will wrap a little tighter around your head.

A simple rotation of the buds achieves this. Because the over-ear hooks are slim and flexible, they are comfortable to wear with glasses or a cap with no discomfort.

Fits like a glove…

They come with seven earbud sizes to accommodate all sizes and also a foam-tipped noise isolating option. They have an IPX7 rating, which makes them resistant to sweat and water. Ok then for a tough work-out and running in the rain, but not for the pool.

They use Bluetooth 4.1, and the sound comes from two 10mm dynamic drivers, larger than the normal for this size of the earbud. The sound is bass-heavy, which seems to be the popular setting for these activity-linked earphones.

The Bluetooth connection is stable up to about ten meters from the device as is usual. They are compatible with iPhone, iPad and Android devices and Windows and Mac PC’s. All controls are on the earphone. The microphone sound is adequate, but it has to be said not the clearest.

The battery will give you about nine hours of use, and a warning is audibly issued when it is running low. You re-charge the battery via the supplied micro USB cable. The package comes with extra sets of earbuds for noise isolation.

Soundwhiz Turbo Pink Earbuds
Our rating:4.2 out of 5 stars (4.2 / 5)

Pros
  • Well made and very durable.
  • Good comfort and fit level.
Cons
  • Rather bulky.

10 Jlab Audio Jbuds

No cables, no wires, just two earbuds. That is the design ideas of JLab with their JBuds. As some of these products go up in price, JLab has managed to produce a budget model that has some interesting features.

They are made from plastic, which most things seem to be these days but are quite sturdy and solid. They come in their charging case and will turn themselves on and connect to each other automatically when they are taken out.

Complete control…

The sound and other controls are located on the earbuds and activated by a gentle push to create the sound you want and also to activate the built-in microphone. This control links you to any incoming calls and to voice assistants.

They use a Bluetooth 5.0 connection, and the battery charge will give you up to four hours in each bud. There is also an extra ten hours in reserve in the charging case.

They have an IP55 sweat resistance rating so are protected against sweat and moisture. And included are extra ear tips and cushioning fins to help you get just the right fit for comfort and seal.

They are an interesting product, and it must be said different, and we like the idea. The battery usage time levels are low for some users, but the battery charger box is a great idea. It is though plastic and a little flimsy, so care is needed.

Jlab Audio Jbuds
Our rating:3.8 out of 5 stars (3.8 / 5)

Pros
  • Nice design.
  • Some good features at a good price.
Cons
  • Maybe a little vulnerable in its build quality.

Best Waterproof Bluetooth Headphone Buyers Guide

Let’s get some sounds for all this activity…

So you want to buy some headphones that are Bluetooth connectable and waterproof for whatever reason. Usually, that reason is that you will be using them for work-outs, running or track work or maybe a swim in the pool. All activities where you need some strength in the build. We presume they are not just for the shower?

The level of activity will go some way to helping you make the decision. There is quite a difference between a ten-minute walk down to the shops and back once a day, like us. To training for a marathon, definitely not us! And so that difference, and all points in between, will go a long way to making a perfect choice.

What Type Of Activity?

This will also have a serious impact because if you are looking to swim, then the choices are much more limited, and the waterproof rating is far more important. We didn’t review any products that will allow you to swim in the sea, and so we are just talking about maybe laps in the pool.

The comfort, of course, will play its part, and so some attention needs to be given to the materials used and how they are attached to your ear. Is there a supporting clip, magnets in the earpieces, so when they are not in use, they clip together, so there aren’t cables dangling everywhere? Do they provide enough options to change the fit? Do they even have cables at all or maybe they are just earbuds?

And how long will they be in use? You may need a decent amount of time on the battery, unless you want to be charging them up every day.

Lots of questions to be considered to get the right product for you.

There is though a set of headphones in the list that will satisfy your requirements, from the big names to the smaller ones. Some great little products, all of which will handle the activity at whatever level you require.

So, What Are The Best Waterproof Bluetooth Headphones?

Not an easy choice because there are some very good options at some very good prices.

For us, though I think that we are looking for something durable and strong. Not too expensive as they will get limited use. A decent sound is ok, as we’re not expecting anything more, and good connectivity — just a bit of all-round quality in every area.

We have therefore chosen as our best waterproof Bluetooth headphones the…

Bose Soundsport Pulse Wireless Headphones

Comfortable fit, decent sound, nice design, and good connections. They do the job at a competitive price.

About Joseph L. Hollen

Joseph is a session musician, writer, and filmmaker from south Florida. He has recorded a number of albums and made numerous short films, as well as contributing music to shorts and commercials.

He doesn't get as much time to practice and play as he used to, but still manages (just about!) to fulfill all his session requests. According to Joseph, it just gets harder as you get older; you rely on what you learned decades ago and can play without thinking. Thankfully that's what most producers still want from him.

He is a devout gear heat and has been collecting musical instruments all his life. As his wife, Jill, keeps on saying, "You're very good at buying nice instruments, but terrible at selling them!".
