Top 20 Best Songs for Instagram Stories

Instagram is arguably the world’s most popular social media platform when it comes to photos and videos. The simple act of taking a picture or video and sharing it has become the thing to do in the 21st century.

We tell the world all the things we want by using our cameras. And Instagram’s Stories feature is the perfect way to share short ones. However, you sometimes need to have the right Instagram Stories background music to make a moment pop.

That’s why I’ve decided to take a look at some of the best songs for Instagram Stories that you can use. They are in no particular order or ranking.

Top 20 Best Songs for Instagram Stories

I Love It by Icona Pop (feat Charli XCX)

Album: This Is… Icona Pop

Let’s start with one for the throwbacks. Almost anyone you know can recall screaming, “I Don’t Care, I Love It!” somewhere on a dancefloor at some point in their life.

Since the track’s release in 2012, it has become synonymous with carefree good times, usually from the past. Not that this implies it’s a song that doesn’t grab onto new generations. That is just what it’s done with millennials and modern-day meme makers.

From retired nurses on YouTube to Drag-Queens wearing Batman outfits on Vine videos, this track has become an anthem of the feel-good rebellion. And is the perfect backing song for any Instagram Story.

Better by Khalid

Album: Suncity

Instagram is the platform of choice for people to share not only their lives with others but to commend those who are with them at that moment. This beautiful track from Khalid’s 2018 EP is the perfect song for such an occasion.

Some people are in your life for the simple reason that when you are around them, you feel better. They don’t even have to be doing anything in particular; they just need to be there.

“Better” is a song about such a person. So, if you feel like you want to show appreciation for that special someone, then make sure to include this as the backdrop for your Instagram Story

Boss Bitch by DoJa Cat

Album: Birds of Prey Soundtrack

The lead single from the 2020 film perfectly encapsulates the character of Harley Quinn. This upbeat, synth-drenched anthem is for the anti-good girl who wants to assert her independence and power.

This track is sure to resonate with you if you need to show off your hard work and determination to your Instagram followers. Stand proud and rock a Captain Morgan pose like a boss with this track in the background. You’ll be sure to get a bunch of “hell yeah” comments on your story.

Rain On Me by Lady Gaga (feat. Ariana Grande)

Album: Chromatica

This one is a dancefloor hit for sure, but it’s also got an added layer of depth due to the lyrics. Gaga and Grande became the first female collaboration ever to win a Grammy for Best Pop Duo/Group performance with “Rain On Me.”

The song is about keeping a stiff upper lip when you hit the lows in your life. Gaga and Grande provide the perfect soundtrack for a post about grinding it out despite hardship and seemingly never-ending obstacles. Hang tough! And jam out on this banger while you’re doing it.

Garden Song by Phoebe Bridgers

Album: Punisher

Next, we have a beautiful indie-folk rock ballad from Phoebe’s second critically acclaimed record, Punisher. This mellow masterpiece can be placed in so many contexts that making a recommendation is almost pointless.

Any moment that is so blissful that you wish it would last forever ought to do. The shimmery well of synthesizers and reverb will make it feel like the world is revolving around you.

Planning a post that you’d describe as “fairytale perfect”? Well, this will be a great Instagram Stories song to top it off with.

Good 4 U by Olivia Rodrigo

Album: Sour

Of course, you’re going to need a break-up song for Instagram, and this is one of the best. The tune will lend itself well to any kind of break-up. But, it will be especially relatable if your ex seems to have moved on quite fast.

The song’s staccato bassline and rhythmic energy make it sound like it could keep on going forever. If you’re looking for some oomph to get your head out of the past, then consider this tune your right of passage into a better future.

I Like It by Cardi B (feat J Bunny and J Balvin)

Album: Invasion of Privacy

“I Like It” is the fourth single from Cardi’s debut album, and it’s the perfect song for taking your favorite holiday picks and vids to the next level.

The track’s music video was shot in little Havanna and features some great ideas if you’re lacking in photo ideas. The music video for “I Like It” has been viewed more than a billion times on YouTube.

Savage Remix by Megan Thee Stallion (feat Beyoncé)

Album: Good News

The savage dance is just one of those things you need to have somewhere on your Instagram profile. The original track is fantastic (it inspired an army of Savages on TikTok). However, the remix featuring Beyoncé has a level of chemistry and power that makes it pop that much more.

This double Grammy-winning anthem was #1 in the US and many other countries. It was named by many as the most successful song of the year. This one will make folks take you seriously, for sure.

Just don’t forget that savage dance, or you will be savaged with comments from an offended army of fans.

Perfect Day by Tundra Beats

Album: Good Vibes

I know it’s an instrumental, but sometimes some great sounds are all you need to complete the moment. This vibey slice of guitar and a drum machine evokes images of an oasis surrounded by an endless ocean.

This song would be a perfect song for Instagram vacation photos. There’s also an element of nostalgia that makes it effective for some throwback or retro pics and videos as well.

Cold Heart Remix by Elton John (feat Dau Lupa PNAU)

Album: The Lockdown Sessions

Elton’s first #1 in sixteen years may be a mash-up of something like four of his old songs. But it’s got a vibe and energy to it that is new and unique. The track is a perfect melding of John’s upbeat side and Lupa’s signature disco sound.

This track is perfect for a night of dancing and fun times with friends. Furthermore, you might even use it as the backtrack for montage vids for every single night out for the last two years.

Days Like This by Van Morrison

Album: Days Like This

First, this track was an anthem for promoting a cease-fire and peace during one of the darkest times in Ireland’s history. Now it has become a popular meme and Instagram song for staying motivated and humble when the going gets tough or monotonous.

Whenever you hit a down day, this track will be a good reminder that you knew it was coming and you’re prepared for it. Just flex that poker face and grind on with this track as your theme music, and before you know it, you’ll be done and feeling a whole lot better.

Wearing sunglasses and looking cool, as Van does in the music video, has been proven to help as well.

Life’s Good by Future (feat Drake)

Album: High Off Life

“Work hard, play hard” that’s the motto for this banger of a tune from Future’s High Off Life album. Putting in extra hours for extra rewards is nothing new to the characters that narrate this story.

The first half of the track is all about keeping it tight and staying focused on the goal that is coming. The second half is all about letting that pent-up frustration from the grind come out in a wild night out. You can take your pick as to which one you want to use for your Instagram story.

Take My Breath by The Weekend

Album: Dawn FM

The Weekend is known for tipping his hat to the 80s in his compositions, and “Take My Breath” is a prime example.

The 80s Synth-Pop-inspired track works in just about any situation. Whether it’s partying, taking pics with friends, GRWM videos, or just jamming out on your own, this is one of the best songs for Instagram Stories.

Stay by The Kid Laroi (feat Justin Bieber)

Album: Fuck Love 3: Over You

The Kid Laroi’s first #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 also went on to top the Global 200 after becoming a chart-topper in 22 countries.

The flamboyant Juno-60 keyboard part and thumping drums make for an irresistible combination that leads you on as the vocals build the narrative. This one is particularly suited to heartbreak, so save it for a real rainy day.

Bad Habits by Ed Sheeran

Album: Ed Sheeran

The critics may have been divided in their opinion of “Bad Habits,” but fans weren’t. Especially fans in South Africa since the track was the first #1 on their newly launched South African Music Charts Billboard.

Whether it’s eating Co-Co Pops in front of your TV at two in the morning, having one too many drinks at a work function, or, playing Dungeons & Dragons at your desk when you should be working, this track can be applied to any post relating to your detrimental indulgences.

Sunroof by Nicky Youre (feat Dazy)

Album: Sunroof Remixes

“Sunroof” is a tune that can work for any lazy occasion on a day off or during a holiday. But the vibe that it gives off is summer all the way through. As a result, it is one of the best songs for Instagram Stories related to sunny summer days.

If you’ve got a convertible, then this is the track that needs to play with the roof down. If you’ve got a pool party going, this is the track that sets the tone. The laid-back beat with the super happy vocal melody makes you want to wear flip-flops and shirts that have flowers on them.

Rock You Like A Hurricane by The Scorpions

Album: Love At First Sting

Whether you use just the intro part with that killer riff and the face-melting twin guitar solo, or the anthemic chorus, here is a classic rock song that will add some real thunder to your post.

Starting a new job? Moving into a new neighborhood? Just had a baby? There are few ways to announce you’re arrival somewhere that have as much power as “HERE I AM! ROCK YOU LIKE A HURRICANE!”

Thrift Shop by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis (feat Wanz)

Album: The Heist

This track was so huge when it came out that most people are sick of hearing it. But to see it used well in a creative Instagram post every once in a while is refreshing.

The track’s chorus serves as the ideal backing track for a fifteen-second snippet of you spinning your new scooter or showing off the second-hand outfit you bought for a weekend festival. If you’re wearing any form of leopard skin clothing, you’ll be scoring double points for being “f#cking awesome.”

Level Up by Ciara

Album: Beauty Marks

This fantastic boomer of a track is one of the best self-improvement anthems of the decade. If you’re hitting the gym or the books like there’s no tomorrow, this is the track to give you a boost. If you can super-speed dance like Ciara and her cheerleaders in the music video, your post will be even better.

About Damn Time by Lizzo

Album: Special

When this world-conquering hit first came out, I remember it getting played on every radio station around knock-off time. Every stoplight had at least one middle-aged guy alone in a Honda with this song on full blast and his tie around his forehead screaming, “It’s About Damn Time!”

Whether you’re finally getting a long-awaited reward for your toils or you’re about to embark on a night of some serious fun, this track will fit the mood like a glove. If you’ve got some flashy outfits lurking in the wardrobe, now is the time.

About Warren Barrett

Warren has spent nearly half a century (now that's a long time!) as an ink-stained wretch writing for music magazines and websites and has no plans on giving up soon.

He is curious about all types of music and instruments apart from any genre with 'Urban' in the title. He's also not so keen on Plastic Potted Plants, Reality TV, and any movies with Kevin Costner in them.

He lives in Delaware with his wife Wendy and lots of great memories...
