Top 4 Best PS4 Microphones You Should Buy in 2022 Review

The PS4 can be found in a large number of households and bedrooms these days. While the PS5 has already been released, the PS4 market is by no means dead. Many titles are still being released, and the online presence for gaming is very strong.

Online gaming has changed the way gamers look at tech, most notably, some would argue, in terms of their microphones. For professional competitive online gaming, communication between teammates must be as seamless as possible.

Therefore, microphones and their quality have become much higher priority items for gamers. And many would consider a poor-quality mic to be a deal-breaker.

Fortunately…

Manufacturers have responded with a flood of new releases over the years. Stand-alone USB mics have become immensely popular for podcasters and gamers alike. Likewise, the quality of microphones and microphone-oriented features on headsets have improved, like everything else.

Therefore, modern gamers will be overwhelmed by choice when going online and looking for a good gaming or podcasting mic to use with a PS4.

So, let’s take a look at the best PS4 microphones currently on the market and find the perfect one for you, starting with the…

Best PS4 Microphones

Top 4 Best PS4 Microphones To Purchase in 2022 Reviews

  1. Steel Series Arctis 7 – Best Premium PS4 Microphone
  2. Fifine K669 B – Best Budget Ps4 Microphone
  3. Turtle Beach Recon 500 – Best Sounding PS4 Microphone
  4. Hyper X Revolver S – Best Noise Canceling PS4 Microphone

1 Steel Series Arctis 7 – Best Premium PS4 Microphone

Steel Series has always been about providing visceral audio. Their high-end headsets will likely feature on anyone’s list of top gaming headsets and microphones simply because of the sheer quality they deliver, be it at a premium.

One of the big selling points of the 7 is that it delivers lossless quality with little to no latency or distortion. Another big bragging stick for the boys over at SteelSeries is the 24-hour battery life. Yes, 24 full hours of game-play can be wrestled from these babies if need be.

As for fit and comfort, these are easily some of the highest rated gaming headsets for fit and comfort both on Amazon and YouTube. The premium build quality and materials make for an excellent fit that is almost impossible to beat.

Mic Quality

Nothing short of superb. Thanks to some of the best noise-cancellation of any headset we’ve ever tested. Nothing but the relevant sounds will be entering your ears.

The microphone has a 360-degree pickup field and features next-generation DTS support. Inside the companion software, the user has control over the 6-band voice EQ and dynamic compression levels that range from low to high.

Finally, you can set the Mic Side Tone level from low to high. There is also a feature to sample and playback your voice so that you can get your adjustments perfect. A good selection of presets also accompanies the software.

You get what you pay for…

A price of around $180 is high, no matter what league you’re batting in. But, considering you get a headset that offers this much with such durability, means it can easily pay for itself if looked after.

Something strange needs to be mentioned about this range. The Arctis 7P is marketed as being for PlayStation, while the 7X is for Xbox. However, the dongle on the 7X has a little switch that allows it to be configured specifically for Xbox pairing or for everything else.

By everything else, we mean the PS4 as well. While the 7P will not work on an Xbox no matter what. Since this means the Xbox version works on everything, it has a bit more value for money.

Steel Series Arctis 7
Our rating:4.7 out of 5 stars (4.7 / 5)

Pros

  • Lossless audio quality.
  • 24-hour battery life.
  • Excellent build quality.
  • Great mic quality and customizability.

Cons

  • Expensive.

2 Fifine K669 B – Best Budget Ps4 Microphone

If you’re planning on jumping in and starting to make recordings, but you want better quality than your laptop mic, a USB budget mic like the K669 B could be the one for you. Especially if you don’t want to break the bank.

Coming in around $30 to $35, the K669 B has got to be the cheapest PS4 microphone you can find. The fact that you can have the microphone in five colors is astounding at this price range. There’s black, blue, silver, green, and red.

The surprises continue…

When you lift the K669B out of the box, considering the price range, you would expect quite a bit of plastic. Yet, the mic feels quite solid and heavy. The fact that there is a mount built into the microphone adds to its user-friendliness.

The volume knob feels as smooth and consistent as you would expect on higher-end models. Also, there is a mic stand included. This essentially means that you can get up and running right out of the box without having to buy anything else.

One downside is that the 5.9-foot USB-A cable is attached to the microphone. Therefore, it can not be swapped out for another should something go wrong. Meaning you will be forced to replace the entire mic. Another downside is that a USB-C would have been more fitting for the modern user.

Mic Quality

For a microphone with such a small price tag, the K669 B has got to be one of the best-sounding budget gaming mics out there. The quality is by no means so good that you will want to write home about it. But, it still surprised me when we first plugged it in.

Being a condenser mic, it does pick up quite a lot of the room sound. Likewise, being directional, the arc on the front of the mic is quite wide. So, sounds from the sides and even a bit from behind the microphone might come through.

Fifine K669 B
Our rating:4.5 out of 5 stars (4.5 / 5)

Pros

  • Inexpensive.
  • Well built.
  • Comes with a mount and stand.
  • More than decent sound quality.

Cons

  • The cable is non-detachable.
  • Only USB-A.

3 Turtle Beach Recon 500 – Best Sounding PS4 Microphone

Since the dawn of competitive shooters, the boys at Turtle Beach have been kicking out high-quality headsets at pretty competitive prices. Coming in at around $80, the Recon 500 sits right between expensive and average. If you don’t mind going the wired route, this might be the one for you.

Build quality and design are a bit of a mixed litter. As far as weight and comfort, they are phenomenal. There’s a full swivel on the cups and enough tilt for the weirdest-shaped heads and ears to fit.

The exposed wire design is probably the only one we’ve seen that accounts for the stretches it might undergo. Even when at full tilt, the exposed wire on the side of the ear cup isn’t being stressed at all.

As for features…

This thing doesn’t come packed to the brim. Being a simple wired gaming headset, there are volume and mic controls located on the headset itself. The mic is detachable, but the 3.5 cable is not.

One downside is that the drivers have a very thin covering and lack any real padding. However, the top padding on the cups themselves is not, and seals beautifully. As for the size of the cups, they are plenty large enough to fit any ear size. And without touching the inside of the foam cups or the drivers themselves.

Superb Sound

Right off the bat, you will be astounded at the pure power of these headphones. Thanks to the Eclipse 60mm dual drivers, these are likely to blow you out of the water no matter what you’re playing. The dual drivers imply separate drivers in each cup for the low and high ends.

The sound quality on this headset has got to be some of the best across the board. Not just in their price range but upwards as well. Furthermore, all that powerful sound has a large space to breathe in, meaning everything sounds bigger than life.

If you play something you’ve played before with a different headset, the Recon 500 almost makes it sound like you bought a sound remastered version of the game.

The mic quality

Quite good, and the microphone rests at a comfortable distance from your mouth. Noise cancellation is quite good, although you will likely pick up keyboard taps if you’re a hard typer or button masher. However, pressing the mute button on the headset is effectively noiseless.

Turtle Beach Recon 500
Our rating:4.5 out of 5 stars (4.5 / 5)

Pros

  • Reasonably priced.
  • Well built.
  • Very comfortable.
  • Excellent sound.

Cons

  • No detachable cable.
  • No prompt to tell you if the mic is active or not.

4 Hyper X Revolver S – Best Noise Canceling PS4 Microphone

Coming in at around $95, the Revolver S is very reasonably priced for a high-quality gaming headset. Especially considering everything you get, this is easily one of the best PS4 microphones you can buy.

Being the flagship headset from the industry giant Hyper X, the Cloud Revolver S has been made with no expense spared in terms of build materials. The new S does perhaps look a lot like its ancestor. But, when you begin to feel the materials with your hands, you’ll notice the small changes.

The white paint that made up the decals and logo has been replaced by rubberized reliefs. The headband stitching decal colors have been changed from red to white along with the stitching on the headband. As for the headband, it is identical. Because why change a good thing, right?

Design and Build

Many complaints came from users about the steel frame on the previous model. It absorbed and generated detrimental sounds when the headset was used at a high volume. Luckily, this has been addressed with nice rubberized inserts along with the problem areas of the headband.

Unfortunately, this has not solved the problem. It seems to be a common occurrence with steel and aluminum framed headsets.

Fit and Comfort

When it comes to comfort, the Revolver S is scoring full marks. Thanks to a minimal but effective clamping force and wonderful memory foam, which Hyper X is known for, it’s hard not to forget your wearing this headset.

Although, it might be a good idea to vent your ears regularly since these can get a bit sweaty. That said, these are some of the best fitting PS4 gaming headsets on the market.

Microphone Quality

The microphone is detachable and quite malleable. The noise cancellation is excellent at removing background noise. Even a very loud keyboard will not disturb the gaming experience.

As far as sound quality, the Revolver S will deliver in any situation with visceral 7.1 surround sound. This is thanks to the dedicated surround module that is probably the biggest selling point of the Revolver S.

Hyper X Revolver S
Our rating:4.4 out of 5 stars (4.4 / 5)

Pros

  • Reasonably priced.
  • Well built.
  • Very comfortable.
  • Excellent quality.
  • Detachable mic.
  • Excellent mic quality.

Cons

  • Not as durable as you would want.
  • The steel frame can still have rattling noises when at high volume.
