Top 7 Best Nintendo Switch Gaming Headsets 2023
1
HyperX Cloud Alpha
HyperX is similar to brands such as Razer or Logitech, and specialize in creating superb gaming gear for serious gamers. Each company offers different variants of gaming gear, from premium down to budget.
Size-wise, for a gaming headset, the Alpha Cloud is a little on the smaller side. Also, its design is less striking and more subdued than many of its competition.
The frame is constructed from aluminum and provides stability. While the ear cups are soft and comfortable and are wrapped with a matte finished vinyl. However, as with all vinyl earpads, you can expect some extra heat, but not so much that it can become uncomfortable.
In terms of durability, all of the parts of the headset are removable, so easy maintenance and long term use are basically guaranteed. The microphone, cable, and ear cups are easily replaceable if needed. But, unfortunately, HyperX doesn’t include an additional pair of earpads in the box.
Whether you’re watching Netflix or YouTube, playing games, or just blasting your favorite music, the headset will always deliver stunning sound quality.
It also delivers great noise isolation, and the daily hustle of life won’t sneak its way into these headphones. Therefore, people passing by, chatting, or doors opening and closing will not be a distraction. Also, surprisingly this headphone doesn’t leak much noise, which is great if you’re shooting away at zombies while your other half is sleeping.
The microphone just about sounds fine. And the microphone suffers from the common issue of budget headsets, in that people with deeper voices might find that their voices sound different.
Pros
- Great sound.
- Comfy.
- Price.
Cons
- Void of extra features.

Beyerdynamic Custom Game Headset
When Beyerdynamic decide to make a set of gaming headsets, they aren’t playing games.
The Custom Game features six ear cup covers, a detachable boom microphone, and 1.6-meter cable in the box. And it is great to see the company providing extra ear pads with purchase, since that is the first thing you usually need to replace.
Beyerdynamic have designed these gaming headsets in the same way as any of their other high-quality headphones, i.e., with the utmost of care and attention to detail. They are comfortable and provide enough space inside the earpad for your ears to breath. While the metal headband clamps on just hard enough to ensure a stable yet comfortable fit, even if you wear glasses.
The headset features large adjustable sliders on the bottom. These control how much of the external noise you’d like to let in. And being a closed-back design, opening the slider will allow a lot of outside noise in, therefore, mimicking what a pair of open-back headphones sounds like. There are both pros and cons to open-back headsets, and this system provides you the best of both worlds.
These provide a well-balanced sound that is suitable for any audio. Therefore, unlike with some gaming headsets, you can enjoy streaming movies, listening to music/podcasts, as well as gaming using the same headset. This is especially great considering the price. Therefore, if you’re on a strict budget and only want one pair of headphones, this is a great option.
If you close the slider completely, you’ll find that the headset will provide great isolation and gives the bass frequencies some extra flavor. This is great for listening to music or watching movies. Or open the slider, and you get the full effects of an open-backed pair of headphones. And you’ll get superb spatial awareness due to excellent sound staging and experience no ear fatigue because of the air circulating around your ears.
The boom microphone is great for isolating your voice and blocking out ambient noises. It is also flexible, which makes adjusting it easy.
Pros
- Great sound and sound staging.
- Comfortable, replaceable earpads.
- Great microphone.
Cons
- Price.
- Quite bulky.

3
SteelSeries Arctis 1 Headset
The SteelSeries Arctis 1 is a beast at the price range, and trades blows with headsets twice the price. And the biggest draw here isn’t just the PS4 and Xbox support, but the fact that it also supports the Nintendo Switch. Which, at this point, still doesn’t have a lot of support from wireless headsets.
The headset consists mainly of plastic, with a vinyl wrapped foam headband and air weaved earpads common with SteelSeries products.
The earpads are super soft and stay cool, even during long gaming sessions mid-day. The headband is soft as well, and it doesn’t clamp down so hard that it is uncomfortable, but provides enough grip that the headset never slides off by itself.
The only issue is the earcups themselves. They are a little shallow, so if you have big ears, you might experience some discomfort.
The boom microphone is adjustable and stable. While, the two provided dongles, a USB-C and USB-A, provide you with endless support. It works on all consoles, even the Switch!
The stereo sound is great, and there is some good separation. Not as good as a decent pair of surround sound headphones, but forgiven at this price range.
The frequencies are all well balanced and puts some of the more premium headphones to shame. This means when you are gaming, you will find nothing sounding louder than it should. Gunfire and explosions will sound as loud as they were intended to, as will the rest of the game.
It also means when you are on a voice chat, the sounds of the game won’t interrupt or be louder than the person you’re talking to. The microphone sounds good as well and is Discord certified.
The isolation is average; the weaved earpads don’t provide as much isolation as the vinyl earpads do.
The headset charges with micro-USB and lasted us just over 22 hours.
Pros
- Great balanced sound.
- Comfortable air weaved earpads.
- Very affordable price.
- Wireless.
Cons
- Shallow earcups.
- Micro-USB charging.
4
BENGOO G9000
BENGOO makes affordable headsets for gamers on tight budgets. It doesn’t match the sort of quality you will get from SteelSeries or Turtle Beach, but why would you expect that at this price anyway?
The G9000 is actually a great headset and surprised us.
What’s on offer here is a classic gaming design, all plastic, with very comfy memory foam earpads. The earpads are comfortable for hours on end and never felt uncomfortable while we were gaming. The headset even has non-customizable LED lights for that extra gamer street cred.
The 40 mm drivers sound fine for gaming. The bass is boosted, like most gaming headsets, and does cause quite a bit of audio masking. When an NPC is speaking with background music, we found the voices struggling to get through the loud instruments.
If you’re playing an FPS, though, you won’t have a problem hearing footsteps or gunshots. Stereo sounds alright, and we never had issues hearing in which direction the action was coming from. However, the sound profile does mean that music and movies don’t sound that great.
The microphone is decent. The retractable microphone sounds good when it’s quiet, but struggles to isolate your voice in noisy environments.
The good sound and price outweigh a lot of the negatives. A flimsy design and average microphone come with the price tag. At this price, BENGOO provide a really good pair of cans.
Pros
- Price.
- Good in-game sound.
- Comfortable.
Cons
- Below average microphone.
- Flimsy build quality.
- Not good for music and movies.
5
Razer Kraken X Ultralight
The Razer Kraken X Ultralight is a very affordable headset that offers all the gaming essentials without any of the extra bells and whistles.
The headset is constructed from Polycarbonate-ABS, which is a very durable plastic. This makes them lightweight and super comfortable to wear, even when also wearing glasses. The earpads are made from memory foam, but they are not replaceable.
There is no in-line controller included, and the volume dial and mute button are built-in to the left earcup.
However, the headset comes with great-sounding 40 mm drivers that offer great spatial awareness. So, you’ll never be wondering where the enemy is shooting from with these on your head. They also have 7.1 surround sound, but that’s only supported on PCs.
The headset puts emphasis on the bass, like most gaming headsets, and provides amazing sounding explosions and gunfire. Vocals are also boosted, making cinematics very immersive and easy to understand. But, some of the high-end frequencies experience some audio masking, meaning these aren’t the best for listening to music.
The microphone is very loud and offers clear vocals. Some ambient noise does come through, but nothing that hinders the performance of the microphone too much. It’s a great boom microphone considering the price range of the headset.
Pros
- Price.
- Good microphone.
- Great sound.
Cons
- Lacks extra features.
6
Audio-Technica ATH-ANC7B QuietPoint
The Audio-Technica ATH-ANC7B QuietPoint is the most expensive pair of headphones on this list. However, they are still very affordable for a pair of ANC headphones.
The company redesigned the new version and upgraded both the build-quality and the ANC quality. What you now get is a really great pair of headphones at a very reasonable price.
The earpads are generously filled and super comfy. They are wrapped with vinyl, which does get a little warm after a while. The sleek matte black is great to touch and feels premium. The headset is well built and feels strong, but remains lightweight.
The headphones sound great, as expected from Audio-Technica. You get a very well-balanced sound form the 40 mm drivers. Bass sounds tight and controlled. The mid-frequencies are clear, with the vocals cutting through the instrumentation really well. The highs sound bright and has ample room to breathe due to great sound staging.
The great thing is, this all translates well to movies and games as well. With a great sound stage, games sound surreal, and you can feel the ambiance when exploring fields, caves, or forests.
FPS games like Fortnite provide stellar examples of the great sound staging found on these headphones. Identifying where footsteps are coming from has never been easier.
The active noise cancelling means not even the rumbling engines of an airplane will bother you.
Pros
- Great, balanced sound.
- Active noise cancelling.
- Comfortable.
Cons
- Price.
- Requires two AAA batteries.
7
Turtle Beach Recon 70s
If you’re on a very tight budget, Turtle Beach’s Recon 70 checks all the boxes at a super low price. The full plastic body provides more than enough support and a tight fit. While the earpads are decent at this price point and are comfortable enough for longer gaming sessions.
Yes, it does feel cheap, that’s because it is. But, if budget is an issue or you always lose things, that’s alright.
Games sound great on the headset with decent staging even. Turtle Beach threw in some good sounding 40 mm drivers in the Recon 70. Vocals sound good and separated enough from the in-game music and sound effects.
The microphone works well enough, especially if you’re playing a game alone in your room. If it gets a little noisy, the microphone starts picking up a lot of the extra noises and struggles to isolate your voice.
The sound profile also doesn’t sound great with movies and music. The drivers are heavy-handed with the bass, and a lot of the mid and high frequencies sound completely washed out.
The stiff plastic design does get uncomfortable after about the three-hour mark, but considering the switch battery doesn’t last much longer than that, you should be fine. Therefore, it works best for gaming while commuting or traveling shorter distances.
It works on the switch using a 3.5 mm jack. And you will find some variations; these are mostly cosmetic changes.
Pros
- Price.
- Good in-game sound.
- Decent microphone.
Cons
- Not so good for music and movies.
- Uncomfortable for longer gaming sessions.
