Top 8 Best High End Home Theater Speakers Reviews
1 Definitive Technology ProCinema 6D – Compact 5.1 Channel Home Theater Speaker System
The Definitive Technology ProCinema 6D starts us off in our search for the Best High End Home Theater Speakers. This 5.1 channel system comes in as one of the more pricier options in this review.
You get four small satellite speakers for use as your front and rear surround audio channels. These satellite speakers each have a 1-inch Tweeter, a 3.25-inch BDSS woofer, and a bass radiator that weighs two and a half pounds.
The small but powerful center channel speaker has a 1-inch Tweeter, (2) 3.25-inch Mid/Woofer BDSS Drivers, and radiators. You quickly notice the clarity of dialogue coming from the center channel speaker.
The sound from these satellite speakers is crisp and clear whether you are watching movies or just listening to music.
Both the center channel and satellite speakers can be mounted on the wall if you choose by using the threaded inserts located on the back of them.
For bass lovers out there, you will have a powered 250-watt subwoofer with an 8-inch driver and radiator. The power cord for the subwoofer is 6 feet long, giving you an ample amount of space. This powered subwoofer can be connected via your regular speaker cable or by using an LFE cable. The bass produced by the subwoofer is nice and punchy.
Why this matters?
The Definitive Technology ProCinema 6D sets a high bar to meet. The build quality of each speaker is top-notch, and they look rather stylish with the glossy black finish on the grills.
Definitive’s Balanced Dual Surround System design of the speakers make for outstandingly clear dialogue, as well as a much more immersive speaker experience.
- Nice punchy bass.
- Clear audio.
- Immersive experience.
- 5.1 channel setup.
- Rather expensive.
2 Klipsch CDT-5650-C II In-Ceiling Speaker – White (Each)
With these in-ceiling speakers from Klipsch, you are leaving yourself open to multiple speaker configurations. Since they are sold individually, your speaker configuration choices are only limited to the number of channels your receiver can handle.
This Klipsch speaker houses a 1-inch Titanium tweeter and an 8-inch Cerametallic woofer. It features KLIPSCH EXCLUSIVE CONTROLLED DISPERSION TECHNOLOGY® (CDT), which allows both the tweeter and woofer to be individually aimed in the direction you are listening from.
Once the CDT is set up, you will notice much better detail and clarity overall. Vocals come out nice and crisp while still having a bit of midrange provided from the woofer that doesn’t overpower the other frequencies. Basically, they work very well together.
Mounting speakers in a wall or ceiling isn’t as straightforward as placing it on a bookshelf and may require specialized tools and some quality DIY know-how.
Once installed, they sit nice and flush with your ceiling. The speaker has white grill covers that are magnetic and easy to remove if you need to adjust the CDT technology in the speaker.
- Easily concealed in your wall or ceiling.
- CDT technology provides crisp audio.
- Can be used with multiple speaker configurations.
- Ceiling installation isn’t that easy.
3 Energy 5.1 Take Classic Home Theater System (Set of Six, Black)
The 5.1 Take Classic system comes in a subtle glossy black finish. It includes four surround speakers, one center channel speaker, and a subwoofer.
This system can be mounted on the wall or by using stands. The center channel speaker weighs 3.2 pounds and measures in at 10.25 inches wide and just over 4 inches tall. You shouldn’t have a problem fitting this on most TV stands.
The four surround speakers are pretty small at just over 6 inches tall they should be able to blend in around your room without taking up too much space. As far as subwoofers go, this one should be easy to tuck out of the way since it measures only 12 by 14 inches.
Each satellite and the center speaker have a ¾ inch tweeter a 3-inch woofer in their housings. Energy Take placed these close together to prevent any sound separation.
What about the sound?
This system provides a great warm sound to your room. While listening to movies, you pick up on subtle effects that you wouldn’t usually notice due to this 5.1 setup.
The surround speakers gave the immersive feel you would expect from a 5.1 setup and were pretty clear. However, we did notice a bit of vibration from the surround speakers, so make sure that they are equalized well and not bass-heavy.
Dialogue comes out very clear from the center channel speaker across the multiple different sound sources we used. The subwoofer also gives out plenty of low-frequency sound without coming across muffled at all.
- 5.1 channel setup.
- Deep bass.
- Clear dialogue throughout.
- Beautiful looking gloss finish.
- Slight vibration from surround speakers.
4 Polk Audio 265-RT 3-way In-Wall Speaker – The Vanishing Series | Easily Fits in Ceiling/Wall
The Polk Audio 265-RT speaker is another in-wall speaker. This 3-way speaker is part of Polk Audio’s Vanishing Series and does do just that when mounted in your ceiling.
The grills on the 256-RT are paintable, thus allowing you to match them perfectly with your walls and ceiling. They stay attached via magnets, which we found provided a secure hold while still being able to be removed if you need to quickly and easily.
Full frequency response…
These speakers are 3-way in design. They have dual 6-½ inch woofers and a 1-inch pivoting silk-dome tweeter. These Polk speakers deliver a full frequency response, providing low-end bass and clear highs. They feature built-in switches that let you tailor the sound to match your specific room.
Depending on the sound source we used, we did notice that bass would sometimes feel a little on the light side. When properly equalized, this seemed to fix the issue, though.
Installation is similar to other in-ceiling speakers. Polk provides you with a template, and the mounting tabs work well, and we didn’t find there were any vibration issues either.
- Paintable grills for coloring matching your walls or ceiling.
- 3-way speaker.
- Excellent sound quality.
- Bass could have been more profound.
5 Fluance Signature Series HiFi Two-Way Center Channel Speaker for Home Theater (HFC)
When you need a quality center channel speaker, Fluance has you covered. This 2-way speaker has three drivers, one for the Neodymium Balanced Silk Dome tweeter and two for the midrange woofers. The 1-inch tweeter emphasizes the midrange and higher frequencies and produces a clear sound. You will notice subtle details in movies that you wouldn’t normally hear.
The dual 5-inch midrange drivers are made from a lightweight yet rigid glass fiber. This allows for optimal movement to handle even extremely high volume levels and still guarantee clarity. They are engineered with a unique pointed dome that allows sound waves to travel directly from the center of the cone providing a great soundstage.
The drivers, in combination, worked well in creating a warm, lush sound. While listening to your favorite music or movies, the overall sound production is exceptional.
The engineers at Fluance have crafted an excellent cabinet to hold this center channel speaker. It is made of black ash-colored wood and is acoustically inert and provides a distortion-free sound. This center channel speaker weighs in at 16.3 pounds and should fit comfortably in your TV cabinet.
- Clear midrange and highs.
- Distortion-free black ash cabinet.
- Unique pointed dome design drivers.
- Not cross-compatible with most pre-built systems.
6 Polk Audio Signature Series S35 Center Channel Speaker (6 Drivers) – Detachable Magnetic Grille
Next up on our quest to find the Best High End Home Theater Speakers is Polk Audio’s Signature S35 center channel speaker. This center channel speaker brings a theater and music surround sound experience into the comfort of your living room.
This speaker is only 4.125 inches tall and takes up about the same amount of room as a typical soundbar would. It is 24.4 inches long and 6.1 inches deep, weighing 14 pounds.
So many drivers!
Hiding behind the grill, you will find six 3-inch drivers and one 1-inch Terylene tweeter dome. Featuring low distortion polypropylene cones for clean, clear bass and increased dynamic mids, which ensure a spacious sound for movies, TV, and music.
The S35 has a tapered array design for increased dialogue clarity. You will not have to worry about clarity fading out because of interference from other speakers.
Polk Audio’s Power Port® design of the cabinet allows for air to flow evenly from the speaker’s port into the listening area. It also increases the bass port and helps eliminate distortion while giving you 3db more bass response.
- A clear sound profile.
- Clean dialogue detail.
- Slim design.
- Compatible with multiple sound configurations.
- Sits at a higher price point.
7 Fluance Signature Series Hi-Fi Bipolar Surround Sound Wide Dispersion Speakers for Home Theater (HFBP)
These bipolar speakers from Fluance provide an airy three-dimensional sound in whichever room you choose to place them. Just like the other Fluance speakers in this review, this speaker features a distortion-free sound as well thanks to the acoustically inert cabinet that houses them.
The Signature Series Bipolar surrounds come in pairs and are two-way speakers that house three bipolar drivers. You will find dual 1-inch neodymium balanced tweeters and a 5-inch woven glass woofer.
The surround sound quality produced by these speakers is compelling. Whether watching your favorite movie or tv show, you will experience theater-quality sound immersion.
The bi-directional design of this speaker produces a big three-dimensional soundstage. The two tweeters are on opposite sides of the cabinet, allowing for a mix of direct and indirect sound travel.
Quality all the way…
The tweeters provide crisp detail, and the woofer gives just enough midrange sound for our liking without being bloated on the low-end frequencies. All of the different sound sources we used provided excellent overall quality.
These can be mounted on the wall with the integrated keyhole type brackets and weigh 10.69 pounds each. They each measure 8.9 x 16.9 x 7.1 inches, which doesn’t make them the smallest surrounds available, but they still don’t take up much space.
- Bipolar design.
- They are sold in pairs.
- Acoustically inert cabinets.
- Well priced.
- Great three-dimensional soundstage.
- They take up quite a bit of room.
8 2-Way In-Wall In-Ceiling Speaker System – For Home Theater Entertainment – Pyle PIC8E
PyleHome’s 2-way inwall or ceiling speakers are another option for those that want a sound system that is easily hidden and sounds superb. This pair of speakers feature adjustable 1-inch silk dome tweeters that pivot providing a full, rich sound. They are accompanied by poly 8-inch cone woofers that provide nice mids.
They sit nice and flush to the wall or ceiling and have magnetic white grills. If white isn’t your color, then you can easily paint the faceplates to match your surroundings. Installation is also aided with the provided cutout templates.
When installing these speakers, we did notice that the installation tabs seemed rather flimsy and could potentially snap off if not careful. There was also a bit of a sound isolation issue, and the sound could carry through the wall into other rooms.
The Pyle PIC8E speakers have an adjustable built-in treble control that can increase or decrease the sound by 3db, allowing you to fine-tune them to your specific needs. The tweeters also pivot 30 to 40 degrees giving you a much deeper soundstage.
The sound quality was on point, given the price. And they get very loud if need be without distorting. Movies, TV shows, or music was a pleasure listening to with these speakers.
- Big, powerful sound.
- Adjustable treble control.
- Pivoting tweeters.
- They are reasonably priced.
- Sound bleed through walls or ceiling.
When you want to have that movie theater-like experience at home, a great sound system is a must. The ability to hear a page turn in a book or a leaf fall to the ground in your favorite movie or TV show is all possible with a great set of speakers.
From 1 channel to 9 channel audio, there are speakers out there for you. A lot of speakers come in sets and most commonly provide 2.1, 5.1, or 7.1 channels. The more channels you have usually means a more immersive and detailed sound while watching your movie, but they also come with increased costs.
Match your amp with your speakers
The audio receiver or amplifier you connect your speakers up to will be the determining factor on what kind of setup you can achieve. Some receivers can only process 5.1 channels or less, so buying a 7.1 channel speaker system would be a waste of money.
Speakers can also be sold individually, giving you the possibility of further expanding your home theater system in the future. Depending on the receiver you use, you might also have the ability for multiple room audio, and individually sold speakers are a perfect way to make the most out of that type of setup.
How Big a System?
Depending on the amount of space you have, speaker size can be important too. A 5.1 channel setup will take up a lot more room rather then an individual speaker would.
Fortunately, speakers can be mounted in a few different ways. Typically you will find wall or stand-mounted speakers. These usually have ports or brackets on the back or even underneath to allow for wall mounting.
Some can even be mounted in your walls or your ceiling. These usually sit flush to the wall, with only a speaker grill protruding from the surface. You can also find some models with paintable grills to match with your surroundings.
Mounting your speakers in your wall or ceiling can take specialized tools to be done right. While if you use stand-mounted speakers, you can simply plug them in, and you are usually good to go. They are also far easier to experiment with to get the perfect sonic setup if they are on stands.
Most speakers receive power from the receiver or amplifier they are connected to. But, not all speakers need the same amount of power to work correctly. It is essential to check not only the requirements for your speaker but also the specs on your receiver or amplifier so they will sound and perform the best together.
