1 Plantronics by Poly Voyager 5200 Wireless Headset – Best Mid Price Bluetooth Headset for Truckers

While the Poly Voyager may not be marketed specifically toward Truckers, it’s got enough features, comfort, and battery life to be worth a look. Since this one is worn on the ear, you won’t be ruining your hair either!

Starting with the build quality, the Voyager looks and feels plenty sturdy, which is something you’d expect considering the near $100 price tag. Not that there aren’t more expensive options available.

A place for everything…

Included in the packaging are three different size tips so that you can find your ideal fit. While the reassuring weight of the charging dock with its rubberized feet means it’ll stay where you put it. It’s nice to have a designated spot to put your headset when not in use because this will prevent you from just putting it anywhere and forgetting to charge it.

Lightweight and Comfortable

Wearing the Voyager is almost like having no headset at all, and it comes in at just under 20 grams; plus, the fit is fantastic. When the microphone arm is extended, it doesn’t cause any obstruction or discomfort. In fact, it’s one of the most comfortable Bluetooth headsets for truckers on the market.

If you need to get out and about as you’re driving, the Voyager won’t be a burden; the fit is more than secure for you to leave the headset on while you’re stretching you’re legs or taking a short walk.

Simple and Practical

The charging dock also doubles as a carrying case which is super convenient for when you need to have your headset with you for an extended period, and you’re not driving. A great bonus is that there are connectors on the inside of the case, so it will charge in that position as well. The case itself can be charged via a USB A to Micro USB cable, which is also included.

The voyager is equipped with Bluetooth 5.0, which is built into the headset itself; this will allow it to seamlessly connect with any of your mobile devices and provide a range of up to 30m. There is also a dedicated USB dongle for using the headset with Windows and Mac computers and laptops, which goes a long way as far as optimizing sound and control when using the headset with a computer.

As far as controls are concerned, the Voyager is keeping it simple with a pair of volume buttons at the top and an on-off touch control at the back.

Good Battery Life and Audio Quality

The Voyager itself will provide you with seven hours of talk time, and the charging case will double this when also fully charged.

As far as quality of voice goes, it sounds great. The overall sound of the voice is clear and loud enough, there is no nasal sound when speaking naturally, and the low end of the voice is nice and present.

While the Headset doesn’t come with Active Noise cancellation, the microphone is marketed as being a “noise cancelling mic.” While playing music in the background, I had no trouble getting a friend to understand what I was telling him on a phone call, so the voyager scores high marks for reducing background noise.

Plantronics by Poly Voyager 5200 Wireless Headset
Our rating:4.2 out of 5 stars (4.2 / 5)

Pros

  • Well Built
  • Portable
  • Good battery life
  • Sounds good

Cons

  • Uses redundant micro USB
  • A bit expensive for something that doesn’t even use USB C

2 EKSA Noise Cancelling Trucker Bluetooth Headset – Best Value Noise Cancelling Bluetooth Headset for Truckers

Coming in at around $80 dollars, the EKSA Noise canceling isn’t exactly cheap, but it’s not close to being considered premium priced either. Considering the capabilities of this fairly simple-looking headset, though, I’d argue that you are getting a lot of bang for your buck.

Comfortable and Well Made…

Included in the fairly simple but brightly colored packaging are your headset, a nice carrying pouch, and a Type C cable for charging.

The EKSA Headset has a very sturdy and well-made feel, albeit a plastic one. Then again, you can’t go expecting suede, lights, and a lot of chrome for under $100. If toughness is your main concern, have no fear; this little headset will take its knocks and falls well.

The earpads are detachable and feel quite plush to the touch, the earcup can swivel, and the mic can be adjusted 270 degrees, so the headset is usable on both the left and right side. The headset also offers more than enough adjustability to fit any size head. Despite the lack of padding on the headband itself, the EKSA headset is plenty comfortable, and I see no problems with wearing it for extended periods.

Simple But Effective

As far as functions and features are concerned, the EKSA isn’t going to make you a perfect cappuccino at the press of a button, but the few things it can do, it does very well.

Bluetooth 5.0 ensures a solid connection with an impressive range of up to 50 meters in perfect conditions. The EKSA also features multipoint pairing, which is great at this price point.

Simple to use and very long lasting…

The headset itself has a simple on/off button that functions as pairing and pause-play controls as well. There are simple volume controls on each side and a mute button on the microphone arm.

When fully charged (which takes about an hour and a half, by the way), the EKSA will give you a full thirty hours of talk time and 57 hours of music playback, making it one of the longest battery life Bluetooth headsets for truckers that you can buy.

Sounds Great

The 40mm driver on the EKSA headset ensures that you have plenty of volume and clarity. The sound is clear and doesn’t sound nasal at all. The AI noise-canceling mic does a pretty good job of canceling out medium-level background noise and isolating your voice.

EKSA Noise Cancelling Trucker Bluetooth Headset
Our rating:4.2 out of 5 stars (4.2 / 5)

Pros

  • Well priced
  • Excellent battery
  • Well-made and sturdy
  • Great Bluetooth range
  • Good sound

Cons

  • Padding can get a bit sweaty after a while

3 BlueParrott B450-XT Noise Cancelling Bluetooth Headset – Best Long Haul Headset for Truckers

A headset built for the long haul. The BlueParrot features longevity, simplicity, and comfort.

Comfort throughout the day…

One of the advantages of this headset is the level of comfort it offers. The ear cushion is big and soft. It is neither too tight nor too loose. However, the size of the ear cup makes wearing this headset with glasses less than ideal.

Along with a padded earcup, the headband features a curved, padded brace. Again, it is quite comfortable, despite the foam padding being somewhat stiff. The brace is contoured and can flex up and down with your head movements.

The headband itself also employs soft padding that helps to keep the headband securely in place. This helps when the road gets a bit bumpy.

Good build…

The housing, frame, and headband are all durable. This headset is not flimsy and should be able to handle some rough usage. It is built to last, and as a result, is kind of bulky. Additionally, it would be hard to call this headset lightweight, as it weighs 148 grams.

But that is the trade-off for increased durability and strength.

The connections…

This headset uses Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity and features A2DP support. As a result, you can stream audio seamlessly. It boasts a wireless range of up to 100 feet from the source with any Class A device.

This headset may stay connected at 100 feet, but it is probably not going to be a very good connection. Plus, this headset is meant for use while driving. So, 100 feet is not a real necessity but more of a luxury.

This headset also features NFC pairing. Plus, you can connect multiple devices to the headset at the same time.

The controls…

There are four control buttons. They are power, volume up, volume down, and the Parrot Button. The power button also answers and ends calls, as well as sets up device pairing. However, most of the controls are redundant because if you use the Parrot Button and the BlueParrot app, you can customize your favorite voice commands.

Therefore, you can enjoy total hands-free operations. Use Voice Control to answer/end calls, adjust the volume, and much more.

The battery…

The Lithium battery delivers 24 hours of talk time on a single full charge. Additionally, you get 500 hours of standby time from a single charge.

There is a micro-USB cable included for charging the battery.

The sound…

This headset offers some serious sound quality. The audio is big, bold, and clear. There is good balance across all frequencies, as well as a solid low-end. The frequency response is 20 Hz to 20 kHz with an SPL of 123 dB. From Techno to Talk Radio, the sound quality is assured.

The microphone is also detailed and clear. Plus, it can eliminate 96% of unwanted noise, which means your calls come through clear and true.

Also included are two windscreens for the mic to further reduce noise.

BlueParrott B450-XT Noise Cancelling Bluetooth Headset
Our rating:4.5 out of 5 stars (4.5 / 5)

Pros

  • Good levels of comfort.
  • Durable and strong.
  • Customizes voice and hands-free operations.
  • Twenty-four hours of talk time.
  • 500 hours of standby time.
  • 96% noise cancellation for clear calls.

Cons

  • Not ideal for wearing with glasses.
  • Not that lightweight.

4 Jabra Steel Ruggedized Bluetooth Headset – Most Durable Headset for Truckers

The Jabra Steel Headset is a single in-ear design meant for use in multiple work environments.

Lightweight and durable…

This in-ear headset is very lightweight, weighing just 10 grams. It is also incredibly durable. The housing is dust, shock, and water-resistant. It is compliant with an IP54 rating. Furthermore, it comes with a 5-year warranty.

That being said, the build design is geared toward worksite usage. Therefore, this might not appeal to long-haul truckers since it focuses on durability over long-lasting comfort.

The fit and wearability…

Speaking of comfort, this earpiece falls short in terms of wearability. It does fit securely in your ear, thanks to the two different ear hooks included. However, the ear hooks can cause irritation and press tightly in your ear. Likewise, the three different gel inserts do not enhance overall comfort.

While this headset will stay in place, it cannot be worn for extended periods without discomfort.

The connections…

This headset features Bluetooth 4.1 connectivity and A2DP support for audio streaming. As a result, you can pair this headset with any Bluetooth-enabled device. It can also pair with two devices at the same time. Furthermore, you can save the pairing settings for up to eight different Bluetooth devices.

Additionally, it has a wireless range of up to 98 feet. However, this will depend on the smartphone you use. Certain smartphones have a poor transmission range.

The controls…

Hands-free operation is the name of the game with this headset. In fact, there are only three control buttons. One button for power on/off, another for call operations, and a voice command button. With that said, all of the controls can be handled by the Jabra Assist App. It is compatible with both iOS and Android devices.

The app allows you to set up specific voice commands for every function. As well as access Siri, Google Now, and Cortana.

The battery…

For truck drivers, the battery life may be a major put-off. Fully charged, this headset offers just six hours of talk time. On the other hand, it does offer up to 10 days of standby time.

The sound…

The microphone delivers clear calls. And does a good enough job of noise-canceling to keep your calls clear. Unfortunately, the listening experience is nothing to rave about. In loud environments, it is difficult to hear the audio.

The headphone is just not very powerful. Nor does this headset provide noise isolation of any kind.

Jabra Steel Ruggedized Bluetooth Headset
Our rating:3.8 out of 5 stars (3.8 / 5)

Pros

  • Very lightweight and durable.
  • Dust, water, and shock-resistant.
  • 5-year warranty.
  • Bluetooth 4.1 connectivity.
  • A2DP support and NFC pairing.
  • Customize voice commands.
  • Android and iOS compatible.
  • Affordable.

Cons

  • Not very comfortable for extended wear.
  • Only six hours of talk time.
  • Weak soundstage.
  • Not ideal for long-haul trucking.

5 Jabra Stealth UC Professional Bluetooth Headset – Best Lightweight Headset for Truckers

Another headset from Jabra that features a single in-ear design. And again, this headset is geared towards on-site and office work.

Build and design…

Like the Jabra Steel Headset, this is a lightweight and durable headset. In fact, it is very similar to the Steel Headset in most respects. Although there are a few differences.

For one, this headset weighs only 7.9 grams. This makes it very lightweight. However, it does not have any dust or water protection.

Finding your fit…

This headset comes with two sizes of ear hooks, along with four different eargel inserts. These are more comfortable than the ones included with the Jabra Steel Headset.

It is easy to find a secure fit for your ears. Plus, weighing roughly eight grams means you can wear these for extended periods.

The connections…

The Jabra Stealth Headset features Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity with A2DP support. It has a wireless connection range of up to 33 feet when paired with a mobile phone.

Likewise, you can pair two devices at the same time. As well as store the settings for eight different Bluetooth devices.

Skype away…

In addition to Siri and Google Now, this headset is Skype Business certified. Therefore, you can take and make Skype calls with voice commands. One more connection option is the USB dongle. The dongle can be plugged into a PC or other devices that do not have Bluetooth connectivity.

Therefore, you can switch between video conference calls to smartphone calls without having to change your headset.

The controls…

Again we find just three control buttons that are the same as the ones of the Jabra Steel Headset.

And again, there is the Jabra Connect app that lets you customize voice commands. As well as providing GPS tracking and battery level monitoring.

The battery…

Another similarity with other Jabra products is the battery of this headset. You will get six hours of talk time on a single charge, along with ten days of standby.

This seems to be the standard longevity of the battery for Jabra products.

The sound…

While the soundstage is an improvement over the Jabra Steel, it is not a major improvement. The call quality is quite good. And the dual microphone does a good job of blocking out unwanted noise.

But, when listening to music, there is no sound isolation. Plus, with only one headphone, it can only provide a mono soundstage.

Jabra Stealth UC Professional Bluetooth Headset
Our rating:4 out of 5 stars (4 / 5)

Pros

  • Very lightweight.
  • Customizable voice commands.
  • Clear calls.
  • 2-year warranty.
  • Skype Business certified.
  • USB-dongle for non-Bluetooth connections.
  • Affordable.

Cons

  • Limited battery life.
  • Uncomfortable after extended wear.
  • Not ideal for long-haul truck drivers.

6 Sennheiser Presence UC ML – Best Sounding Headset for Truckers

Sennheiser is known for their audio capture and reproduction. This little headset provides excellent sound quality.

The build and design…

This headset offers several fitting options. All of which are quite comfortable and provide a secure fit. There are four different ear sleeves included. As well as an ear hook and a headband option. Therefore, you should have no problem finding the perfect fit. Plus, this headset can be worn on the left or right ear.

Furthermore, this headset comes with a 2-year warranty that includes the batteries.

Controls…

Operating this headset is very easy, if a little unusual. There is a multi-function control button for answering and ending calls, along with a few others.

The microphone is unique. Rather than an adjustable boom, this headset uses a slide boom. Slide open to take or make a call, and slide it close to end the call.

Of course, most of the controls can be handled by the Sennheiser Smart App. It works with both iOS and Android devices.

Connections…

This headset uses Bluetooth 4.0 and offers a wireless range of up to 82 feet. It can pair with two devices at once.

It comes with a USB dongle, which allows you to connect to a laptop or desktop computer. Furthermore, this headset is Skype Business certified.

The sound…

This is where Sennheiser shines. Several features enhance the sound quality of calls. Three microphones, combined with SpeakFocus technology, delivers excellent clarity during calls. WindSafe technology reduces wind noise when outdoors or with the window rolled down.

And the Own-Voice-Recognition detects your voice and adjusts to reduce background noise.

Sennheiser Presence UC ML
Our rating:3.9 out of 5 stars (3.9 / 5)

Pros

  • Clear and accurate sound.
  • Excellent noise reduction and cancelation.
  • Automatically adjusts sound profiles.
  • Skype Business certified.
  • USB dongle for PC and laptop use.
  • 2-year warranty.

Cons

  • Expensive.

7 BlueParrott Bluetooth Headset – Best Value for the Money Headset for Truckers

This is basically a less sophisticated version of the BlueParrot B450-XT we looked at earlier. However, it still offers quality construction, durability, and comfort.

But, as we shall see, it lacks some of the features found on the B450 headset.

Built for the road…

This headset is strong and sturdy. And for the most part, quite comfortable for long periods of use. However, the headband is bare metal. There is no padding, so it can be irritating after a while. That said, wearing a baseball cap under the headband will solve that issue. It is also fairly lightweight at 71 grams.

The earcup has some soft padding, as does the head brace. Additionally, the earpad can be replaced. Therefore, you can find your ideal fit. However, any extra earpad will be a separate purchase.

The controls…

Unlike the B450, this headset does not have a Parrot Button. So, there is no voice command customization.

Most of the controls are, of course, handled by the BlueParrot app.

Connections…

Here again, we find a big difference from the B450. This headset uses Bluetooth 2.1, which works with Class 2 Bluetooth devices.

As a result, there is no NFC pairing function. Likewise, the wireless range only extends to 60 feet. It does still offer A2DP support.

The battery…

You can expect up to 20 hours of talk time and 150 hours of standby time. And again, it charges using a micro-USB cable.

The sound…

This headset delivers a clear and well-balanced soundstage. It also provides up to 91% noise-cancellation. The result is clear and accurate calls free from unwanted noise.

Certainly a strong contender for the Best Bluetooth Headset For Truckers.

BlueParrott Bluetooth Headset
Our rating:4.2 out of 5 stars (4.2 / 5)

Pros

  • Lightweight and durable.
  • Twenty hours of talk time.
  • Comfortable wear for extended periods.
  • 91% noise-cancellation.
  • A2DP support.
  • Affordable.

Cons

  • No NFC pairing.
  • Lacks padding on the headband.
  • No custom voice commands.

8 Bose Bluetooth Headset Series 2 – Best Premium Headset for Truckers

In terms of audio equipment, Bose is a well-established manufacturer. This headset from Bose offers premium sound quality when listening or talking.

The build…

This headset is small in size and fairly lightweight. It weighs 12 grams and features a curved design. This allows for a more comfortable fit. Speaking of comfort, there are silicone ear tips that come in S, M, and L sizes. These tips are soft and offer good stability.

They cover a large area in the ear and distribute pressure evenly. This means they are not too tight and can be worn for longer periods of time.

The controls…

There are four controls on the unit. A slide switch controls the power, located on the underside of the headset. Additionally, there are volume up and down control buttons and a call button.

Using the Bose Connect app, you can control most functions directly from your smartphone. It is a free download that works on Android and Apple devices.

Connections…

This headset features Bluetooth 2.1 and supports A2DP for live audio streaming. It has a wireless range of roughly 60 feet.

Likewise, it supports multi-point pairing. This allows you to store the settings for up to six different devices. As well as the ability to pair the headset with two devices at the same time.

The battery…

The Lithium-ion battery can deliver 4.5 hours of talk time and 100 hours of standby. In our view, this is not enough battery life for truck drivers.

Sound Performance…

Since this headset is made by Bose, we expect some high-quality audio. And it did not disappoint.

The first key feature is the Adaptive Audio Adjustment technology. It automatically adjusts the volume level based on noise from the surrounding environment. Basically, you rarely need to manually adjust the volume, whether listening to music or while on a call.

Accurate and detailed…

Second is the TriPort acoustic structure. This design feature allows for more natural voice quality. It also works to maintain accurate and detailed sound quality at a high volume in loud environments.

And lastly, the noise-rejection microphone. The frequency is set to filter out unwanted noise, whether high, low, loud, or soft. It ensures your calls come through with crystal clarity.

Bose Bluetooth Headset Series 2
Our rating:4 out of 5 stars (4 / 5)

Pros

  • Good quality build, and materials.
  • Adaptive audio adjustments.
  • Durable, lightweight, and comfortable.
  • Excellent noise-rejection.
  • Easy to use with intuitive controls.

Cons

  • The battery life is only 4.5 hours.
  • Expensive.

Best Bluetooth Headset For Truckers Buying Guide

Best Bluetooth Headset For Truckers Review

For truck drivers, and especially long-haul truckers, battery life is a primary concern. This is because headsets are not only for listening but also for talking. And truck drivers do a lot of talking. You would not want the battery dying while halfway between Scranton and Dallas.

Another main concern is ease-of-use. The headset needs to be hands-free, or at least operate with quick touch functions.

And, of course, the comfort and fit are of utmost importance. Truck drivers will need a headset that will not cause unwanted fatigue or discomfort.

Why do truckers wear headsets?

The biggest reason why truckers wear headsets is simply communication. This is so they can stay in contact with fleet managers, friends, family, and even other truckers. All while keeping their hands free to operate their rig.

Hands-free communication devices are essential for road safety.

Can truck drivers listen to music?

Top Best Bluetooth Headset For Truckers

The basic answer is yes. Listening to music through the radio existed long before MP3 players, Bluetooth earbuds, and digital audio players were ever on the market. There are no restrictions on using the in-dash stereo in any big rig. In fact, many truckers connect their smartphone to the in-dash stereo using a simple AUX input.

It is a convenient way to bring your music library with you on a long haul. Likewise, truckers who own their rig outright will often upgrade the sound system.

That being said, there are some legal distinctions to be aware of.

Can truck drivers wear earbuds?

As a general rule, truck drivers should not wear headphones or earbuds that cover both ears while driving. Headsets that cover only one ear are typically acceptable.

However, this is not a hard and fast rule. Each state has its own rules regarding listening devices for truck drivers. In fact, some states allow both ears to be covered while driving. In Minnesota, California, and Ohio, it is illegal to drive while using headphones. Whereas in Idaho, Iowa, and Indiana, there are no laws that forbid using headphones while driving.

Furthermore, each trucking company can issue its own regulations regarding audio listening devices.

What is the Best Bluetooth Headset For Truckers?

As we mentioned earlier, a trucker’s headset needs to satisfy certain conditions. Battery longevity, comfort, and hands-free operations are primary concerns for truckers.

With those things in mind, we chose the…

BlueParrot B450-XT Bluetooth Headset

While it is larger than most of the other headsets on our list, it offered the greatest amount of comfort.

Plus, the battery life is fantastic. And we really like the Parrot Button that lets you customize the voice commands you use the most frequently.

Until next time, happy listening.

About Joseph L. Hollen

Joseph is a session musician, writer, and filmmaker from south Florida. He has recorded a number of albums and made numerous short films, as well as contributing music to shorts and commercials.

He doesn't get as much time to practice and play as he used to, but still manages (just about!) to fulfill all his session requests. According to Joseph, it just gets harder as you get older; you rely on what you learned decades ago and can play without thinking. Thankfully that's what most producers still want from him.

He is a devout gear heat and has been collecting musical instruments all his life. As his wife, Jill, keeps on saying, "You're very good at buying nice instruments, but terrible at selling them!".
