Top 9 Best 2000 Watt RMS Amps for Your Car in 2023

Anyone serious about having quality sound in any vehicle knows that there is no one single component that makes the magic happen. That’s why it’s called a sound system. That being said, if one element could be considered to be the heart of the sound, it would probably be the amplifier.

Picking the right amp can make your stock system sound above average; it can make your super-expensive speakers work to their full potential. It can make up for some of the shortcomings your system has, and if chosen right, a good amp can make all the difference. Then again, picking the wrong one can make everything else seem like bad purchase decisions.

2000 Watts is a lot of power for a car sound system, but if you’re sure that 2000 is your number, you’re still pretty spoiled for choice these days. So, let’s go to the buffet and see what’s on offer as we look at the Best 2000 Watt RMS Amps currently on the market.

1 Audiopipe APCLE 2004 – Best Compact 2000 Watt RMS Amp

Audiopipe has a fantastic reputation for making high-grade amps. The APCLE 2004 proves that paying that little bit extra is oftentimes worth it when it comes to good-quality audio equipment. The 2004 comes in at around $200, and inside the box, you get the amplifier, a manual, and a remote control for the bass.

The amplifier is very well made, as one would expect from Audiopipe. It’s got a distinctive circular design on the top that makes it look almost like a racecar. This is a class AB amplifier with a built-in heatsink and fan. The materials used are sturdy but also lightweight, the size of the amp is pretty average, but its compact and solid design gives you the confidence to mount or install it anywhere in your ride.

Spade Connectors…

One side of the amplifier houses all the terminals for connecting your wires. These are not gold plated, as you’ll find on some other models by Audiopipie. The connectors themselves are the older “spade” or “fork” type connectors which can be quite tedious at times.

The other side of the APCLE holds the RCA inputs and some controls, and boy, oh boy, are there some controls on this amp! One of the coolest is a toggle switch for using all four channels, only two channels, or two channels specifically for bass (sub-mode).

On top of this…

There are separate high-pass and low-pass filters for channels 1 and 2 and 3 and 4. Each of the two filters comes with a frequency selector to precisely tune your frequency cut. There’s also a small button that will multiply the filter range by ten.

There are two toggle switches for mono and stereo configuration. As with the filters, the first switch pertains to channels 1 and 2, while the second switch pertains to channels 3 and 4. You can choose to have the channels in stereo, mono, or dual mono.

When it comes to power…

The APLCE is rated for 100 watts per channel at 4ohm, 150 watts per channel at 2ohms, and 300 watts per channel on a bridged connection. Unfortunately, there have been many users complaining that on an amp dyno tester, the Audiopipe doesn’t make the required wattage; in one case, the amplifier even popped when pushed at a reasonable level.

However, the sound performance is a little disappointing considering the pedigree of this amplifier; not quite what you’d expect from the guys over at Audiopipe, I’m afraid.

Audiopipe APCLE 2004
Our rating:4.2 out of 5 stars (4.2 / 5)

Pros

  • Well made
  • Nice looking
  • Lots of controls

Cons

  • Not the greatest-sounding amp you can buy.
  • Expensive
  • Doesn’t achieve the advertised power
  • Output terminals are tedious “spade” type

2 Hifonics BXX2000.1D Brutus – Best Looking 2000 Watt RMS Amp

Hifonics make some amps that not only sound great but look great as well. The 2000-watt version from the Brutus range is no exception. It got the classic Hifonics, polished-steel look with a flat and wide design.

The BXX2000.1D will set you back around $240. Inside the box, you get the amplifier, a remote bass knob, and a basic wiring kit.

Let’s you know what’s going on…

The Hifonics logo on the top of the amplifier acts as an LED indicator for the status of the amp; blue means normal, whereas red will indicate overheating or a shorting problem with the wires.

All the output terminals on the Brutus range are angled nicely to make wiring easy, and they are also nickel plated for good conductivity. The output terminals are more modern type connectors which is a step up from the old screw-type connections found on earlier Hifonics models.

On the controls side of the amp…

…you’ll find your RCA outputs and inputs, voltage level, phase controls, bass EQ(10db crossover), subsonic filter, and a low-pass filter. There are also two LED indicators, one indicates power, and the other is linked to the protector circuit, which warms you in cases of overload or too much heat.

This is a Class D amplifier that is rated for:

  • 1 x 2000 Watts @ 1 Ohms
  • 1 x 1000 Watts @ 2 Ohms
  • 1 x 500 Watts @ 4 Ohms

The amplifier certainly has more than enough power, and some users have reported that the Brutus range produces even more power than advertised. Thanks to the class D technology, there is very little distortion when pushed to high levels (with high-quality speakers)

The heatsink does a great job of regulating the temperature, but if you push this amp to the limit for long periods, it will overheat without extra cooling.

Hifonics BXX2000.1D Brutus
Our rating:4.1 out of 5 stars (4.1 / 5)

Pros

  • Well made
  • Sounds Great
  • Good Controls
  • Plenty of power

Cons

  • Bulky
  • Expensive
  • Can overheat
  • Mono only

3 CT Sounds CT-2000.1D – Best Constructed 2000 Watt RMS Amp

CT Sounds is not a widely known name in the world of car audio. Recently though, they’ve been surprising folks with their range of impressive amplifiers. The market for smaller amps has grown a lot, and with the CT2000, the company hopes to hit a home run.

The CT 2000 comes in at around $240, which is not what you’d call a budget option; however, the money goes into more than just some nice lettering and a box.

Quality construction…

The CT 2000 is a very well-put-together piece of tech, and while holding it in your hands, you struggle to believe that it’s not a solid piece all the way through. The materials and construction are top-notch; the only small downside is the length of the unit. You may have some trouble getting it to fit under the seat of a smaller vehicle.

The output terminals are well-marked and easy to use. Connecting the wires should be no problem, even for an unskilled hand. In fact, it’s one of the easiest 2000 Watt RMS Amps to install currently on the market, as long as you have enough room for it.

Take control…

On the control side of the amp, you’ll find an LED indicator for power and another for overload and overheating protection. Additionally, there are RCA ins and outs, a gain knob, a Low Pass filter, a Subsonic filter, as well as a boost function with a 12db range and its own frequency selector.

Where the CT 2000 will surprise you most is likely where it counts most, the sound and the power. The amplifier is rated for :

  • 1Ohm @ 14.4v 2000 Watts x 1-Channel
  • 2Ohm @ 14.4v 1200 Watts x 1-Channel
  • 4Ohm @ 14.4v 650 Watts x 1-Channel

As far as delivering the advertised power, the CT 2000 will fulfill and even exceed your expectations, depending on your setup.

Get the perfect sound for your ride…

There is some distortion in the lower range when you really start pushing it, but that would have to be at unpractical levels, so it’s nothing major. Using the sound shaping controls and the included bass level knob allows you to easily shape a sound to work perfectly for the space you’re in and the material you’re listening to.

Overall the sound quality and performance of the CT 2000 make it one of the best 200 watt amps in its class

CT Sounds CT-2000.1D
Our rating:4.3 out of 5 stars (4.3 / 5)

Pros

  • Well built
  • Good controls
  • Great sound
  • Plenty of power

Cons

  • Expensive
  • No wiring kit included
  • The longer design may be tricky to fit in certain cars

4 Rockville dB16 – Best Lightweight 2000 Watt RMS Amp

This manufacturer needs no introduction. Their reputation for providing high-quality audio at a range of prices is as solid as the rock they put in their company’s name. For audio enthusiasts wanting to make a statement and can afford that little extra, the dB16 has to be a serious consideration.

With its sleek-looking design and sharply contrasting blue inlay, the dB16 is a sharp-looking amplifier. On top of that, it’s very lightweight for its size. The build quality is on par with the design, and nothing feels loose or rattly.

The bold white lettering makes for easy identification and no confusion when installing the amplifier. It doesn’t appear to be the type to wear away after a few years of use.

One downside…

The angle of the wire inputs causes a wiring problem when the amplifier is mounted flat. Unless you use some intuitive and sometimes tedious wiring solutions, the heavy bend in the wires will cause them to wear out much faster. This has been noted on other Rockville amplifiers as well.

The dB16 is CEA rated to deliver 4000 watts RMS of continuous power with a 2-ohm load. Alternatively, you can achieve 2500 watts RMS of continuous power with a load of 4-ohm. When at its peak, the dB16 will deliver a very impressive maximum of 8000 watts with a 2-ohm load.

As for durability and consistency, the dB16 is well built, as mentioned before. Thanks to the MOSFET power supply, the dB16 can handle almost anything you want to throw at it, and more importantly, will do so safely. Full IC circuit protection further improves safety and durability.

Controlling your sound is not a problem…

The dB16 is equipped with more than enough to shape a decent sound for any system. There’s a subsonic filter that runs from 15 to 155Hz. Furthermore, a low pass frequency crossover control, which has a range of 50 to 250Hz. Finally, there is a built-in Bass EQ with a 12dB crossover. You also get a wired remote control.

The dB16 delivers crisp audio, and the low-end can be defined to suit any taste. On top of that, the immense power gives that definition a massive presence. But that power comes at a price; the lack of a good cooling system means the dB16 tends to overeat when pushed to its limit for too long.

That being said, even when used in moderation, there is more than enough volume. All this comes in at around $225, which means great value for money.

Rockville dB16
Our rating:4.4 out of 5 stars (4.4 / 5)

Pros

  • Great design and build quality.
  • Good sound quality.
  • Variety of sound-shaping controls.
  • More than enough power.
  • Reasonably priced.

Cons

  • The uncomfortable angle of wire inputs.
  • Does tend to heat up at the limit.

5 Boss Audio Systems AR2000M – Best Value for the Money 2000 Watt RMS Amp

Boss Audio Systems has long had success with its car amplifiers, perhaps more than any of the other products it offers. The ARM2000M is one of those amps that just go for big hits and home runs all through the season. It scores big in all the important places.

Plain yet powerful…

Build quality and design are perhaps the plainest aspects of the AR2000M. While the rectangular little box in its gunmetal finish is perhaps not the most striking look, it more than makes up for it with power and functionality.

Also, it must be mentioned that while the look is plain, the materials themselves are of A-grade quality. The components are well put together as well. Making this one of the best high quality 2000 Watt RMS amps on the market.

The simplicity of the AR2000M does mean it’s easy to install and couple with almost any type of setup. It’s also one of the most compact 2000 Watt RMS amps out there. Under your seat, in the boot, or even the glovebox shouldn’t prove a problem for the AR2000M.

Plenty of bang for your buck…

The ARM2000M will deliver 2000 Watts at 2-ohms, and 1000 Watts at 1-ohm. This is not the most powerful amp in this class, but keep in mind that power is only as good as how it’s delivered. Additionally, you’ll see there are very few amps that can beat the AR2000M overall.

The ARM2000M has low and high-level inputs. The low-Level RCA inputs are measured in volts. The high-level wire inputs are measured in watts. Sound controls include a variable low crossover with a range of 50 to 250Hz. As well as a low bass boost control with a 12dB crossover.

However, the gain control doesn’t control volume. It controls the amount of signal coming from the receiver and going to the amp. There is a MOSFET power supply and an Auto Shut-Off feature to prevent overheating and to protect your speakers.

Finally…

The AR2000M comes with linear circuitry to boost output efficiency and provide more stable power. Remember what I said about paying attention to how the power is delivered?

The fact that this fantastic package comes in at around $100 makes it one of the most appealing quality amps on the market. The AR2000M is one of Boss Audio Systems’ highest selling products and is also one of the most popular 2000 Watt RMS amps.

Boss Audio Systems AR2000M
Our rating:4.2 out of 5 stars (4.2 / 5)

Pros

  • Reasonably priced.
  • Excellent build quality.
  • Great sound quality.
  • Easy to install and compact.
  • Great value for money.

Cons

  • Not the best looking.

6 Kenwood KAC-9106D – Best Premium 2000 Watt RMS Amp

Kenwood has a long, proud history of delivering quality amplifiers. Especially their smaller, compact but powerful ranges for those on a budget. The KAC-9106D is Kenwood’s way of reminding high-end buyers that Kenwood can go the extra mile for those with the extra dollar.

The design is sleek and modern, but sharp edges in the front cover design, and the casing itself, make for a very aggressive look. Hands down one of the most recognizable 2000 Watt RMS amps money can buy.

The triangular LED on the front only adds to the feeling of quality. The amplifier itself is reasonably light but by no means a feather pillow. It feels good and solid when you handle it.

Don’t let the numbers fool you…

The KAC is rated at 1000W RMS at 2-ohms and 500W at 4-ohms. The maximum is 2000W. Considering that the KAC comes in at a quite hefty price, many users would be expecting more power.

However, once you compare the quality of the sound and the build quality of the amp to cheaper competitors with the same power, you might soon realize where that extra cash is going.

The KAC comes equipped with a low pass frequency crossover control that ranges from 50 to 200Hz at 24dB per octave. This makes for a nice high trimming capability to get the sound good and crisp. There is a Bass Boost control that can introduce 18dB of boost at around 50Hz.

One more feature…

Finally, you get an Infrasonic filter from 20 to 50Hz at 24dB per octave, to control the low-end. An aluminum-cast heat sink helps to regulate temperature and maintain the consistency of the power. The KAC comes with CEA 2006 complaint power ratings to ensure safety and efficiency. As a result, it’s one of the best 2000 Watt RMS amps on the market.

Kenwood KAC-9106D
Our rating:4.4 out of 5 stars (4.4 / 5)

Pros

  • Quality sound.
  • High build quality.
  • Great looking design.
  • Easy to install.
  • Impressive power.

Cons

  • The bass could be better.
  • No remote control.
  • Expensive.

7 Skar Audio RP – 2000.1D – Best Compact 2000 Watt RMS Amp

When compared to many of its rivals, Skar Audio is still a very new kid on the block. Despite that, this young gun has come forth with plenty of high-caliber solutions to a modern auto-audiophile’s problems. The RP2000.1D very quickly became one of the most popular car amplifiers upon its release.

The flat and thin design is very compact. This is in keeping with Skar’s minimalist aesthetic, which is common on many of their amps. It feels like a solid block of gold, and there is nothing that reassures you more of quality than that kind of weight and feel. I think you’d have to hit it with a hammer to make something come loose.

Well-marked inputs and the small size make this one of the easiest to install 2000 Watt RMS amps on the market. However, the small size must in no way be mistaken for weakness.

Tiny Thunder…

The RP2000.1 can deliver 800 Watts RMS at 4-ohms, 1400Watts RMS at 2-ohms, and 2000Watts RMS at 1-ohm. This little brick has an impressive peak rating of 2800 Watts at 1-ohm. The frequency response is 20 to 250Hz. Gram for gram it’s got to be one of the most powerful amps for its size.

Functionality isn’t bad either…

The RP2000.1D comes with a high-speed MOSFET power supply to ensure efficient output while maintaining safety and preventing damage to speakers. There’s a variable Low Pass Filter that runs from 50 to 220Hz, and a subsonic filter to tame the lows; the switch is marked from of to 50Hz.

There is also an onboard Bass EQ switch that can provide 6 or 12dB of boost at around 45Hz. A wired remote control is included, although the quality of the wire leaves something to be desired. The sound quality is impeccable, and using the built-in controls, shaping a well-defined, and loud bass sound isn’t rocket science.

With a price of around $215, it’s easy to see why the RP2000.1D is one of the best selling car amplifiers on Amazon.

Skar Audio RP - 2000.1D
Our rating:4.6 out of 5 stars (4.6 / 5)

Pros

  • Great build quality.
  • Superb sound.
  • Easy to install.
  • Compact design.
  • Impressive power.
  • Reasonably priced.

  • Does tend to overheat at max output.
  • Poor quality wire with remote control.

8 Planet Audio PL2000.1M – Best Budget 2000 Watt RMS Amp

Planet Audio is also another newcomer compared to many of its peers. The distinctive design of their products and favorable reception has line after line of new and improved goods. The PL2000.1M comes in at around $100 and is one of the coolest looking amps around.

The sleek black finish to the plastic and the unique shape of the box, and that awesome blue LED that illuminates the whole thing, just makes you want to go clubbing. The PL2000.1M is a bit on the heavy side, so you’ll want to get some help installing it if you’re planning on a tricky spot.

That being said, the build quality is quite good, the blue outline and easy-to-read, bold lettering on the sides make for no confusion and easy installation.

Pleasant and punchy…

The PL2000.1M will deliver 750Watts RMS at 4-ohms, 1500 Watts RMS at 2-ohms, and has a maximum output capability of 2000Watts on a 2-ohm load. The bass is well-defined and punchy, with a pleasant subsonic quality that is more felt than heard.

A class A/B MOSFET power supply makes for stability and safety, as well as the capability to handle anything you throw at it. The PL2000.1M has high and low-level input capability. Sound controls include a variable low pass filter as well as a bass boost control. There is also a remote control included.

Planet Audio PL2000.1M
Our rating:4.3 out of 5 stars (4.3 / 5)

Pros

  • Awesome looking design.
  • Well built.
  • Simple to understand.
  • Good quality audio.
  • Well-priced means great value for money.

Cons

  • Somewhat heavy and cumbersome.
  • Limited sound control capabilities.

9 NVX NDA-105 – Most Durable 2000 RMS Watt Amp

If you’re a Star Wars fan, the 105 is probably the amplifier for you. This thing looks like it came off the Death Star, and that is meant in the best way possible. Luckily, the long streaky vents that give the 105 its Sci-Fi coffin appearance are functional.

The 105 can deliver 780 Watts RMS at 4-ohms, 1300 Watts RMS at 2-ohm, and will output a maximum of 2000 Watts at 1-ohm. This is plenty of power for any car interior, and even at high output levels, it must be said that the 105 holds together quite well, which attests to build quality.

High-performance amplifier…

Another contributor to the prolonged performance at high levels is the MOSFET transistor which makes for less energy loss because of heat. Therefore, bass reproduction capability is more consistently maintained when the volume is turned up. The 105 is CEA 2006 compliant and comes with three-way protection circuitry to protect speakers and the amp itself.

Functionality comes in the form of remote bass control and a few sound controls. There is a variable High Pass Filter with a 24dB per octave crossover and a variable Low Pass Filter that runs from 35 to 150Hz at 24dB per octave.

Finally, a bass boost control that can provide 12dB of boost at around 50Hz. All in all, one of the best 2000 Watt RMS amps you can buy.

NVX NDA-105
Our rating:4.7 out of 5 stars (4.7 / 5)

Pros

  • Unique design.
  • Well built.
  • Good sound quality.
  • Easy to install.
  • Good long-term value.

About Joseph L. Hollen

Joseph is a session musician, writer, and filmmaker from south Florida. He has recorded a number of albums and made numerous short films, as well as contributing music to shorts and commercials.

He doesn't get as much time to practice and play as he used to, but still manages (just about!) to fulfill all his session requests. According to Joseph, it just gets harder as you get older; you rely on what you learned decades ago and can play without thinking. Thankfully that's what most producers still want from him.

He is a devout gear heat and has been collecting musical instruments all his life. As his wife, Jill, keeps on saying, "You're very good at buying nice instruments, but terrible at selling them!".
